Anyone know where it's at?

Why is the shoutbox not showing in TP 1.0?.html (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,23026.0)
TinyPortal Doc's Board (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php)
None of those apply to my post. Thanks though. All I wanted to know was where the DL link was, but I have since realized it isn't a TP mod, it's the same thing as YShout.
The Advanced Shout Box is not currently available or supported for TinyPortal.
Try the TP Simple Shoutbox and I think you'll find it works just fine. :)
While it may not have all of the extra features of the Advanced version it is nonetheless an excellent Module for TP and most users like it.
I couldn't get it to work; not on any theme :(

That IS what you need to get the shoutbox installed, offcourse you need TP installed to get it to work at all.
For your stream issues, they are compleatly a premission issues, if you cant set the correct permissions 755 on folders, and 655 on files, then your host have to change it for you.
If you got the stream error during install, most likly your install went bad over all as TP creates and change a lot of files.
So manually check that EVERYTHING did install properly.
How do I manually install TinyPortal (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=29)
Modification Instructions (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=140)
I DID follow that read me, and it didn't work, hence my asking where the link to download the advanced shoutbox was at. I appreciate you guys trying to help but throwing more read me links at me won't help in this situation.
I don't want to manually install the TP Shoutbox because the last time I did that it shows up on the site without the module or block container normally seen. It looks out of place basically *shrug*.
They havn't been wanitng you to manually install the shoutbox, they are wanting you to follow the manual install instructions for TP itself. The shoutbox is a module of TP and if TP is not installed correctly then the chance of the shoutbox not working increases.
So I suggest you go thru the manual install instructions for TP and ensure it is installed correctly.
Once you have done that come let us know and we can go from there.
Are there instructions for removing TP properly? Also, am I going to lose the last umteen hours worth of work I have spent getting it integrated exactly the way I need it?
You should not lose any work as it is saved in the database.
Using the manual instructions will just ensure that the entries that TP requires be made in other files are in fact there. if they are missing then you will need to add the code entries as described in the instructions.
Uninstall is done via the package manager.
OK, I'll uninstall TP and reinstall using the manual method, and then see if I can get that sb to work.
This link will take you to the manual uninstall procedure should you need that.

As for the manual install process; while at first glance it may look a bit difficult, it's really easy to do and it is a great way to learn a little about how the files look and work together... a little reading and working now for a much easier tomorrow. :)
OK, stumped already... step 2 says: "2. upload these files with a FTP program (filezilla) to the install folder of the SMF install,"
SMF has already been installed, and there is no "install" folder any longer. Where do I up the files to then?
Probably the folder smf is in? SMF innstal file, is not a folder.

It is saying that you upload the files to the same folder where you installed SMF on you server... in your ftp utility it will look something like; "/public_html/tptest2" (
that's my test site.)
Here is a little how-to that you may find useful:
QuoteDoing a manual install of TinyPortal is easy to do, you just need to follow the directions found in the Manual Install File Modifications Guide. (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=140)
Take your time and read carefully as you go and it will work well.
Here's how to safely do file edits:
FileZilla (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/)
One of the better ftp utilities and it's free.
It's the only one I use.
And you'll need a good editor, here is a nice free one:
Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm)
Any time you do anything to your forum there is one thing that you should make part of your routine, like:
Backup... Backup... Backup!
When editing a file I generally do this;
- Make a temp folder on my desktop...
- Open the site with the FileZilla FTP utility...
- Download a copy of the file in question and place it in the temp folder...
- Then download a fresh copy into my editor and edit away...
- Go back to the site and rename the existing online copy of the file to something else, like, old_filename.php...
- Then upload the edited version of the file.
When doing several files I wait until all of them have been edited so that they can all be uploaded at the same time.
If everything is OK then I'm finished.
If its all messed up I just delete the bad file that was uploaded, rename the good one to the correct file name and the forum is back to normal.
I guess I was taking it too literally: "install" folder, hehe. I am trying to make damn sure I do nothing wrong this time because I am sick to death of this web site already (my client, not TP).
meh.. shoutboxes.
Can't get to manually install properly either. I keep getting this error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE in /home/acct/public_html/Sources/QueryString.php on line 458
I tried re-doing the mods to that file but to no avail.
OK, I give up, no matter how TP is installed the SB will not show up in any position I tell it to. As a matter of fact, no new module, panel or block shows up either.
Any admin feel like looking at it?

Updating
In TP 1.0.5 several locations where TP modifies SMF files have been changed. Its therefore needed to remove any old installation of v0.9 before installing TP1.0.5. Primary its the SMF file modifications that needs to go, everything else will be preserved of course. The way to do this can be many, but the 2 main methods are:
1.) Simply un-install TP 0.9 first, then upload and install fresh TP 1.0.5 It will sense the old installation, since any un-install will not remove any TP files or data.
2.) The second method has slightly more to it, and it WILL wipe other SMF mods as well. But for many it might be necessary if 0.9 won't un-install easily.
* Upload the update files for your current SMF installation, and run upgrade.php
* Re-install TP 1.0.5 afterwards, it will sense the old TP files/data and restore them
This is a new install, vanilla install, no other mods, packages, etc. This is NOT an update in any manner, shape or fashion.

Where is my old Shoutbox?
Due to the transformation of Shoutbox to an external module, there are also a few steps to take if you want to re-use the shoutbox again.
* Go to "modules" section and to the tab "uploaded modules". Install the shoutbox module, either one of them or both
* Go back to the blocks, either modify the older "shoutbox" block(now as a "blank" block) or create a new. In both cases choose the type as "TP module"..the last of the list there. Save and then edit again, this time a list of installed modules should appear for you too choose
* Choose the shout module you like and save
* Check that the block render the shoutbox
I followed this to a T. It still does not work. If you don't believe me log in to my site as the admin and check for yourself.

About blocks and panels
- Another issue to look out for is the default setting of new blocks, which is changed. Now they are NOT set to show everywhere, you will need to set that first. Note that a warning will show if the block isn't set to any location yet.
- Panels have essentially the same names, but the old "center" panel is no called "upper" panel. The extra added are "top", "bottom" and "lower".
The SB panel/module and a test block are set to be visible both in the Left Panel. Neither are showing up.
Send me a PM with a temp admin account login and I'll take a look if you like.

Fixed.
Your settings were all correct, except for:
When you make a block there are options for where it should display, see the ss below.
Where is that located at?
At the same page that opens up when you create a block
Where? This is what I see when I hit the add new block link form the panels section:
Depends on what version of TP you are using but generally you look for where it says ...
Go to visible options
Choose where the block should appear.
Click that, and it will take you to the visual options for the block.

Open one of the blocks for edit... Look on the line above the 'Save' button and you'll see this; "Choose where the block should appear. [Show] [Hide]"
Click on [Show] and you'll see the page options.
EDIT: You should see those options when making a new block as well as when doing an edit on an existing block.
Ken, you're the man. :)
