Title: Stop Guests From Downloading
Post by: madturki on February 10, 2009, 03:36:38 PM
I'm using SMF 1.1.7 and TP 0.983

Is there a way to allow Guests to see the downloads but force them to register in order to actually get the file?  I did browse through my permissions but can't find this option.

Thanks!

There is no option for this. An option that will be added in the future. You can however use a block code snippet to give this effect. Check out the code snippets board for more info on that.

Should I just duplicate this post in that board? :P  I did use the search feature but I'm not getting any related results.  Do you have perhaps a more precise suggestion on where to look or what to try within that board?

Not really necessary.  Just try doing a search for "Guest download mod" or just "Guest download" or something like that.  It should be in the Block Code Snippets board.

Well, I found plenty of posts with other people looking for the same thing from as far back as 2006 :P  I found one mod from 2006 but it doesn't work with newer versions of TP I guess.  I suppose the official answer is just "no - there's no way to do it"

Yeah... It says it's good up to 1.1.4 (I'm at 1.1.7) and I get the "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF." error when trying to install it :(

Thanks for that though

madturk,

Just because it says it's good up to 1.1.4 doesn't necessarily mean it won't work with SMF 1.1.7.  Send a Reply in this topic ---> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,18922.0.html and Dragoon or somebody will be able to tell you how to install the mod for 1.1.7.

not recommended, but you can open the zip and find  package-info.xml

find

<install for="1.1.3, 1.1.4">

change to
<install for="1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.7">
and find

<uninstall for="1.1.3, 1.1.4">

change to
<uninstall for="1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.7">

Yeah, you can do this, or you could do the old emulate version trick to install mods for older versions of SMF into new versions.  It works most of the time.  To learn how to do that, click this link ---> http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=278513.0

Thanks for the help guys!  I the file I was working with was giving me warnings before install so I used this one: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,11799.0.html

It was only made for 1.1.1!  I modified the package-info.xml as suggested (thank you!) and added 1.1.7 as an option and it installed without warnings or errors and works great!

Thanks a lot ZarPrime and Lesmondâ„¢
