Does anyone know how to create a block where messages scroll up in a set time frame

Use a scriptbox and the html marquee tag.

how good is the browser compatibility with the marquee tag ?

i'm currently using a multiple div scrolling javascript thing on one site but its all a bit bulky.

Check out this Wikipedia Page on the Marquee Tag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquee_tag), especially the part about compliance.

IMHO, there are better ways to do scrolling if it's something you really want, for instance DHTML. Dynamic Drive has a lot of nice scrollers. See this page ---> The Scrollers Page at Dynamic Drive (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex2/index.html).
