Title: Feature Request: Mod Blocks
Post by: QueenTiye on January 04, 2009, 11:26:43 PM
I'm not sure where this request belongs - if it would fit best in snippets, or modules, or what.

What I'd like is a block where I can pull in most recent content from other modules.  For instance - I have SMF Media Gallery - it would be nice to be able to pull in most recent pics, or slide show, to the front page.

Increasingly SMF accommodates a number of modifications - and TinyPortal is being adapted to accommodate these as well.  As a portal - it seems fitting that TinyPortal be able to accommodate add on modules.

Thoughts? Ideas? Already exist?

BTW - I have SMF 1.1.7, and TinyPortall 0.9.8.

You would have to have different blocks to access different mods. There's no way that there could be one block that would access data from every mod.

Whoever writes the code to access the data would have to have the mod installed as well in order to be able to know what data is stored and how it is stored, as well as being able to test the code to make sure that it works.

Hi JPDeni.  Yes. Yes I do want fries with that. ;)

OK - so how do I go about asking for specific mods? I have named 2 modifications that I'd like to see have front page status - ESPECIALLY the gallery.  What's the procedure?

Which gallery? There are a few of them out there. We already have things like recent pics from gallery. But that depends on which one you're talking about. Check the Block Code Snippets Board (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/board,46.0).

For the most part, you should ask help from the person who makes the mod. Its a pretty easy thing for the mod author for them to give some code to work with their mod.

And you can ask for something here, but the answer may be "No" just because we can't possibly have every SMF mod installed on our own forums.

I looked through the Block code snippets and didn't see anything - I have the SMF Media Gallery at present.

I'll try looking again.

Ok - I must be blind - rechecked the block code snippet - and there's a thread right in front of my nose.

SO a really quick question, then, - do I just post the code into a scriptblock - or what? What do I do with the block code snippet???

It tells you what type of box at the top of the topic. Its a phpbox type of block. You put the code in and click save. Its that easy.

I don't think this is what your looking for, and doesn't fit into a block, but can be useful: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=555

Maybe a php nerd can tell you how to add images from the gallery...

QT, check the SMG site. I believe I saw a block for that there.
