Title: TP1.0.6--newsfader
Post by: DarkAngel612 on December 29, 2008, 06:32:02 AM
I am just finding out that some of my members do not see the fader....fading out from one news item to the other.

Myself and some others ahve tested it with Firefox (current version) and IE and so far IE is the cuplrit.

Is there anything that i can do to let it fade in and out for the die hard Internet Explorer users  :knuppel2:

I forgot to add that it is the Fantasy Attic link below and with all the themes not just the default smf one

This is more a SMF issue if its also in default theme.

well from the time of posting i finally went in there to actually test each theme myself ---just to make sure...lol

too many saying this one and that one so the final count is these themes are the naughty ones:
Blaze by Crip
Invazion by Bloc  :o
Xmas10 by DzinerStudio  -- this one is just for others that may experience the problem but it will be deactivated soon anyway...was just up for Christmas

Any idea what I need to look for?

SMf functions are supported on SMF forums.
Ask them what you need to add to the other themes,

One issue if I recall, is that any color code in the style.css file was the short version, the fader wouldn't work. In the themes that you have this problem in, look in the style.css file to see if you have any of the short version of color codes. For example:

You may find something that has a font color set by doing this:
color: #000;

Change ALL short versions (only 3 characters) to the full length versions (6 characters) and see if that fixes the issue. If not, then you're best off asking at SMF I think.

color: #000000;

alright...seems there are others and their recommendation is to contact the creators of the themes that are not functioning with the fading. So that is what I will do...so Bloc....what do you suggest?

now to find Crip and DzinerStudio contact info...lol

Look in the default themes files and take the fader code from there, add it manually to the themes that dont have the code.

/ Show a random news item? (or you could pick one from news_lines...)
if (!empty($settings['enable_news']))
echo '
<td width="90%" class="titlebg2">
<span class="smalltext"><b>', $txt[102], '</b>: ', $context['random_news_line'], '</span>
</td>';

that is what i transferred over but it did not help...is that the right code?

No, thats the quick news code. You need the code located in BoardIndex.template.php.

The code in Invazion theme should work..but do try this: rename the file BoardIndex.template.php in Invazion theme folder to something other, then refresh. If Invazion theme then still do not render the fader, your default theme is faulty. If it does render then, keep the file renamed.

Thanks Bloc i took the one in the themes that are not behaving in ie out of the theme folder still did not fade

put it back fresh from a zip of the themes...nope

used the one from the default theme and replace it in the themes still no fading

they will just have to suffer

I removed invizion for now and will put it back in at a later date and see if it still happens

IE can be so temperamental...lol

Looking at your site I see several places with the short code for colors that I spoke of earlier. I'd bet some money that if you go through the style.css and tp-style.css that it would work. :)

I will go thru the Attic .css files for blaze once more and see where the little things went hideaway on me...lol

right now it is the only one I am real concerned with for that has many users and I know a lot of those are with IE...I shall check again

Happy New Year's to you all and even though we all bug you all about our naughty items...you are al very appreciated.

just trying to sort out a newsfader problem and i notice in this thread reference to tp style css -- i have changed the style css in the adagio theme to 6 numbers -- but now i note there are a few 3 figure background references in the tp style css

does for example -----background: #555; become background: #000555;
or is is this a completely different colour?

thx

#555 should be changed to #555000.  They're the same color.

No, actually #555 becomes #555555. Essentially each character should be treated as a double.

So a short code for red #F00 would be #FF0000
