Title: Run down on setup
Post by: crucify on November 25, 2008, 02:44:47 AM
I just need a quick rundown on what I need to do before I run the install.php for TP.
CHMOD what files, where the files go,etc.
Of course I would read the Docs section but, as you know they are down.

Please read the Posting Guidelines.html (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,581)

You must provide us with info on what you are doing, or what you try to do, your setup etc.

Ok, here goes.
Package manager has NEVER worked for me with SMF.
I have to install everything manually.
I'm using SMF 1.1.7

I want to install TP 0983
I need to know what to CHMOD.

I cant think of anything else you need to know.
No mods installed, base theme.

You need to chamod the same folders you see in the tp package
But if you do a manuall install, you should not have to chmod anything. It should work anyway unless you have owner issues for the files and folders on the server, if that is the case, it will not matter what permissions you set, the files and folders will be rejected by the server anyway.

Here is what I have done.
I uploaded the TP files to the forum folder on my server.
I CHMOD the folders for TP to 777
I then ran the tp_install.php
This is what I get

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/virtual/site17/fst/var/www/html/forum/tp_install.php on line 169

    * Settings table updated
          o Added 98 new setting(s)
    * Blocks table created.
          o some sample values were added to the blocks table
    * Variables table created.
          o some sample values were added to the variables table
    * Articles table created.
          o some sample values were added to the articles table
    * DL manager table created
    * Shoutbox table created

      Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/virtual/site17/fst/var/www/html/forum/tp_install.php on line 874

TinyPortals table structure is now installed/updated.
Please restart your forum to see the changes.

Any ideas whats wrong here?

you must run the manual db install file

manual_tp_install.php from the browser, not the tp_install.php

Did that, and no errors this time.
BUT, I don't have any of the TP admin section and the forum doesn't show any part of TP.

Rutro, now what do I do here?

If you guys could link me to the Docs section I probably wouldnt have to bother you.
As you should know Ichbin that link is worthless, it's been down for I dont know how long.

Let me ask you this, why cant I just upload the files via FTP as I have done and then run the install.php?
I want to know the reasoning behind it.

In the Docs section there was a place in it that told you what EXACT files and folders that need to be 777, can someone just tell me that?

This shouldnt be such a mess to install, but because my package manager always says session invalid, please log out and back in again, I cant use it.

You know what? I think it's time to beg one of you guys to install this for me. PLEASE!!!
I'll PM you the info you need if someone here were to be so kind!

The docs board is working fine for me. I don't have the docs memorized, so I'm not going to make an attempt to type it out again. No offense. Installing a mod is not a difficult thing. I think you are making more out of it than necessary. These are the basic steps you need to do, and CHMOD has NOTHING to do with manually installing a mod (unless you are unable to edit your files because of permissions).

1. BACKUP all files and databases.
2. Put forum in maintenance mode.
3. Upload all the files that the mod requires.
4. Run the database script (manual_tp_install.php).
5. Make the edits to your files that the mod requires.
    If you can't get to the Docs board, you can look at the .mod files for your version of install to see the files that get updated during the install. These are the same instructions that I linked you to.
6. Take forum out of maintenance mode.

Right now, I don't have the time to do this for you as I'm inbetween getting ready for a Thanksgiving trip, and working on a script.

Wow, now all of a sudden the Docs links work:)

I deleted everything off the server, tried one more time via package manager and discovered that it now works in SMF 1.1.7
Except, for some reason it tells me that my forum folder does not exist LOL. It sure does exist. This is absolutely nuts.

Thanks for the help, I simply give up at this point.
