Pauls dad, it is best that you always start your own topic when posting your own question. I've split your post from that topic. If anyone is willing to help you I'm sure they will reply.

You might want to try just using the Shoutbox as it is, except without the title or frame. Then add another block above it, also without a title or frame, with your candle graphic and maybe some text. By not using the frame on either one, it can look like the two are connected.

Thank you all for your replies i took a look at that link G6 and the links it took me to went right over my head but the other person was after the same as me so i am not alone in my search. JPDeni your suggestion sounds good but i did want a candle to scroll with each message i don't want a lot do i lol. Shame there isn't a smiley as a candle then i could just have that smiley for the shout box i have these ideas but have know way of implementing them wish i was clever.
Sorry for posting in the wrong place IchBin and thanks for moving my post
Thanks again all

Quotei did want a candle to scroll with each message

I see. I didn't realize that.

Actually, you can put a smiley as a candle. Go here (http://www.mazeguy.net/symbolic.html) and you'll see a couple of them, one of which is animated.

I have another idea, which I have tested out and it works! :)

I see that you're using TP .98, which is good because that's what I've tested it on.

This may be a bit out of your comfort zone, but you can do it. I promise!

Download the file TPortal.php, which will be in your Sources directory.

Open the file in a plain text editor (something like Notepad). Don't use a word processor.

Do a search in the file for

$shouts .='<div style="margin: 4px;"><div style="border: dotted 1px; padding: 2px 4px 2px 4px;" class="windowbg2"><b>'.$row['value3'].'</b></div><div style="padding: 2px;"> '.timeformat($row['value2']).'</div><div style="padding: 4px;">';

Right below that, add

$shouts .='<img src="candle.gif">';

Save the file.

Download the candle image that's attached to this post.

Upload the file you changed to your Sources directory on your site and upload the candle graphic to the main site directory -- one level up from the Sources directory.

That should do it. Add a shoutbox to your site. Every shout should have the candle in front of it.

If you upgrade TP, you'll have to make this change again.

That sounds really good and what i want would i have to get rid of the shout box i have in use before i try i wouldn't be able to run both would i ? thank you JPDeni for taking time to try this out and work out how to do it i do really appreciate it. Not sure when i will try as it is a little bit out of my comfort zone and  i will need to build up courage to do it as i don't want to mess up anything on the site

Thank you so much for your time & effort

No, you wouldn't be able to run both. You would have to set up a whole second shoutbox routine and database table and everything in order to do that.

I understand about the comfort zone thing. But you really can do it! Just remember to keep backups of everything and you should be fine.

Would it help if I attached the altered file here? I can do that if you want.

I'm really happy to help if I can. I'm in a very similar position to you.

I am so so sorry to here you are in a similar position to me if that is in Ref to my site.
Before we go any further with this i think the source file is at my hosting company in my control panel am i correct i am thick sorry, i havent been there since i got the site working and just went to have a look and came away straight away just clicking on things there frieghtend me in fear of messing it up and believe me i would. Everything i have done to the site so far has been from the admin. i have copied everything you have told me to do not sure if you giving me the altered file would be of help and i dont want t waist your time i was hoping i could just get a code and paste it in to a block but that doesnt look to be the case would have been ideal for a thicky like me.
I really do thank you so much but i dont think i will be able to do this.

Yes, I lost my daughter. For many years I was "Nicki's Mom" online. Thank you. And I'm so sorry for your loss as well. Yours is newer than mine, but it never goes away.

Quotesource file is at my hosting company in my control panel

Right. If you have a regular "cpanel" which most companies use, you can access it through the File Manager. You might even be able to edit it directly online.

Well.... we might be able to work out a separate thing. I don't have any immediate things that I have to do today so I'll give it a shot. I'll get back to you.

:) You're doing fine. I understand your nervousness.

Change the name of the file back to what it was. Upload it to your webspace. You'll get a message saying something like "Do you want to overwrite the current file?" Say "Yes."

Good on you for stepping out of your comfort zone!

Hi JPDeni

In the end i didn't have to do it i found a link that i could use that i could link to from my site to enable people to light candles just for our site, this way i keep the shout box and are able to light candles, but thanks for all your help if anybody else need something like i wanted please pm me and i will give you the link it give you a code and everything, the only down side to the code is it doesn't let people go directly back to your site it doesn't open another window but if anybody could help me with that it would be very much appreciated thanks again JPDeni thinking of you.

You should be able to get to your control panel with an ftp client.  ( I use core ftp le)  for host url.  you enter ftp.yoursite.com, and your ftp username, password.   I am only a couple years removed from you in experience.  Sometimes you gotta just, do it!
Good Luck
Peace, God Bless
