In:
TPAdmin - Front Page Settings:
I've set:
"Allow guests to see news from the news board - even if guest are not allowed to see the board?"
to "Yes". But on my main page (visiting as a Guest) I get to see the "SMF news" but not the "TP News"
So when a guest arrives he will get to see the News put into the "Admin - News and newsletter", and then where the "TP News" would normally be he sees:
Warning!
Only registered members are allowed to access this section.
..........
Is it possible to allow guests to see TP news even if theyre not allowed to see the board?
Hm, this setting is causing some confusion: the word "news" is a bit misleading, what is meant is to show posts from the selected board in TPadmin/frontpage settings. You see, the SSI function which TP use for this, does not get the latest posts at all if the global setting in SMF "allow guests to browse the forum" is off.
So I added a setting that let you still show the posts, even if that global setting is on. BUT..you still need to allow the board for guests, otherwise it won't work.
This still have some issues so I will go more through this for the next major release.
Eh..now I just got even more confused :D
Np, tho. I think I managed to do something close to what I originally wanted now. :)
Well...I didnt... I'm a dork :uglystupid2:
What I want to accomplish for Guests is this:
- They can view the "home index page" (/index.php)
- They can view the News on "home index page" (which is posts from the "News Forum")
- They can NOT view articles (/index.php?page=xx)
- They can NOT browse the forum (/index.php?action=forum)
How is this done ?
Anyone please ???
http://www.your url here.com/forum/index.php?action=permissions;sa=modify;group=-1
You have to set the permissions here to for your gusets
Articles do not have permissions right now, so you can only setup a block that do NOT show for guests, and add the links to articles there. But it will not be protected if any guest get hold of the link and go directly to it.
Also, if you enable that guests cannot browse the forum, the articles/news will not work properly. Rather allow guests to browse, but set each board permission to NOT allow guests. Then you should be able to show news for guests, but not the actual board/topic.
Ah...ofcourse I AM a dorhhk :uglystupid2:
It was the lack of permission on articles that confused me all along....
Thanks for the replies :)
...come to think of it...permissions on articles would be extremely nifty and useful....
It will be in. I am still lingering between permissions on a category - or a single article. Might opt for both, in that any specific article permission override the category permission.
Hehe, nice Bloc !!! :)
Would it also be possible to add something like I've debated above ?
I mean, if you via "SMF admin" turn of the ability for Guests to browse the forum, they will still be able to see the News fetched from a forum and displayed as a News-listing on the main-page....
Not sure. I need to investigate more. As mentioned, the whole subtemplate function halts when guets are not allowed - so i need to override that just for the TP subtemplates. It might or might not be easy to do.
Thanks Bloc for outstanding work with the Themes and TP.
Just curious on the Categery/Article permissions. What kind of schedule you are thinking of in putting this feature in? Would be extremely useful in multiple situations.
