Title: Block, category, articles question
Post by: yardbird on October 24, 2008, 12:02:49 AM
Link to my site: http://www.yardbird.net/smf
SMF version:1.1.6
TP version:0.9.8
Theme name and version: Amber-TP
Mods installed: SMF Gallery
Related Error messages: n/a

WARNING! New TP user. :)

I am trying to work with the Articles capability of TP.
I wanted to have a category about meditation. That part is no problem. I have articles to go in there... also no problem.

If I create a block that shows the articles within the category, "Meditation", it does not list the articles in the SUBcategory, "Meditation Facts". If I put all meditation-related articles in a single category and then make a menuitem that points to that category, if a user clicks that link they go to a page that has ALL of the articles in that category displayed one after another after another.

Am I missing something obvious? (very likely)

What I would LIKE to do is ...

When a user goes to the Meditation Center link, I would like to display a list of all articles in the meditation category and if possible I would like to be able to use the SUBcategories to further organize that list. Is this possible?

That was a feature that wasn't avaiable in TP 0.9.8. Showing the articles in the sub categories wasn't added until TP 1.0 if I remember right.

Thanks, IchBin. I'll wait a bit then before trying to get further with that part. I'll wait until there's a 1.0 stable release and upgrade at that time. :)

Meanwhile I can be exploring the other block types and see what else I can do with TP.

As a possible alternative, you can try the paginated articles snippet in my signature. It may accomplish something close to what you're looking for under TP 0.98...
