Title: [Solved] Linktree Malfunction
Post by: sbt on October 10, 2008, 04:14:18 PM
Hello, new to owning a forum. It has SMF 1.1.6 and TinyPortal 1.0.5.

We have a linktree problem and we have narrowed it down to TP causing it, somehow we have a linktree malfunction and need help to solve it please.

In my forum:
ForumLink> Forum > Permissions > Permission Updates.
If you click Permissions it opens the forum, not the parent board of permissions.
We need to change it so it does please.

Maybe this would help, when the mouse hovers over forum it shows:

And the same when it hovers over parent board:

I did do a search here for help with this, located this topic
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=2651.0
But when trying it, the forum white paged with and error.
So obviously did something wrong, lol.

Can anyone help please?

Edited to add:
Link to my site:
SMF version: SMF ver. 1.1.6
TP version: TP ver. 1.0.5
Theme name and version: SMF Default Theme - Core, with a color and banner change.
Mods installed: None
Related Error messages: No error message

Sorry. Modified first post.

What is SEO please?

Did ask this at SMF forum, but those forums without TP did not have this problem so they suggested this get posted here.

Check the Modification Instructions (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=140) and look at the section for the Load.php. Make sure you have all the changes that the instructions show.

Yes all the proper codes are on load.php

Two things - First, can you attach your load.php and TPModule.php file  from the Sources folder, AND can we have a test account to look at this? PM me if you don't want that public.

Ok, the files look fine. Looking at your board logged in on the account you gave me, I'm not quite sure I understand your problem. When I travel to the forum index I see the "Artist Permission Updates" top level board in the category "Artist Permissions". If you click on "Artist Permission Updates" it takes you into the board where you now see the linktree as you posted in your first post.
PSPClassicCreations ~ A PaintShopPro Forum Since 2004 > Forum > Artist Permissions > Artist Permission Updates

Clicking on "Artist Permissions" SHOULD take you to the board index, as it is a TOP level category. Am I missing something?

Okay, maybe I used the wrong example, sorry.
Try this one
ForumLink > Forum > Permissions > Permissions > A

If you click A, it goes to A child board.
If you click Our Yes Permissions, it goes to Our Yes Permissions.
If you click Permissions, it goes to forum.
It should go to Permissions board, but it doesn't.

Have been adding posts in the last couple days and is definetley an annoyance, to have to go another way, lol.

I don't think you understand how this works, as it is working properly IMO. Here's a little explanation.
Form = top
Artist Permissions = top level Category
Our Yes Permissions = top level board in Artist Permissions Category
A = child board of Our Yes Permissions

Clicking on Artist Permissions IS the category that the "Our Yes Permissions" is in. The "Our Yes Permissions" board is NOT in the "Artist Permissions Updates" board. Are you thinking that "Our Yes Permissions" is a child of  "Artist Permissions Updates" ? As it is not.

No, Im sorry, I used the incorrect example first post.

I understand, I think, lol.

The forum is setup in admin.
So the category is Artist Permissions
Then the parent board is Our Yes Permissions
and child is A.

Here is a screenshot.

Should not clicking on Artist Permissions return you to that section, alone, apart from the main forum please?
I had been a member of another forum with SMF and TP and it did that.
Maybe it is a mod perhaps?

No. It doesn't work that way in SMF. Try it here on the TP site. In the linktree you see in this topic, click "Development." You'll get the forum. That's the way SMF works.

Okay, yes that is what it does here too, but how did that other forum do it?

While it may be going to the forum, what its doing is going  to the top of the category. You'll notice it actually shifts the screen down to put the category at the top of the screen. But as Deni said, this is how it works. If you can, show us the forum where you seen it work differently. Its most likely a theme or mod doing something to make it work that way.

It is TZ, not a member there anymore but they have SMF and TP and it do that. If I can find out what they had, will let you know.

Thank You all for helping with this.
