Title: A few questions...
Post by: neon401 on September 22, 2008, 09:30:37 PM
Hello. I just started using SMF and TinyPortal but I'm having a bit of problems.

1. I've tried installing the block code snippets World of Warcraft Recruitment Block (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,19751.0.html) and WoW Boss kills block (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,22320.0.html) but I can't get them to work at all. You can see what I mean here. (http://www.nalum.no/ai2/) I have tried with both the current theme and the default theme, so that shouldn't be the problem. For the recruitment block, I have installed the .js file I am required to. For the Boss kills block, I really have no idea what to do.

1b. It seems when I use the boss kills block, all the fonts shrink down. What can cause this?

2. How do I make the images appear in news post like on this site: http://www.martyrdomguild.com/index.php?www with clickable images that opens in a new frame. Looks really good.

3. Is it possible to edit the links in the header? e.g Forum, Help, Search. If so, how?

4. Is it possible to customise the news template? Like, remove the date, change the order of title, date, author etc.

That's all I can think of for now. Any help is appreciated.

About all your questions have been asked a lot of times allready.
A search will lead you to several answers on how to make it look and behave as you want them to  :)

How to add a Home button or a new tab or change order? (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=30)

For the block code question, you have to ask in the block code thread, al the answers are there and if not, they will be answerd there by one of the coders when they find the time to  :)

Thanks for the help. I've fixed some of the issues, but some new ones appear.
I'm trying to intergrate EQdkp into tinyportal using a php article with the include function. However, I'm not getting anything on the article page!
This is how the php article looks like:
include('index2.php');
and here is the page: http://nalum.no/ai2/index.php?page=4
All it displays is the category (World of Warcraft)

include('http://www.nalum.no/ai2/index2.php');
Didn't work. Any other ideas?

Try just this path /ai2/index2.php

And just to be sure, you are using a php block ?

I'm using a php article, not a block.

I don't see any info other than a members list page that requires some input on that page. Looks like your index2.php gets redirected?

You're right, it was redirecting to listmembers.php, but including that instead of index2.php won't help, no matter how I put the url in the include code.

Well if the page you are including requires user input to get something in return, there's not much TinyPortal can do about that.

Well, this guy certainly managed to do it: http://www.thebitbox.us/revelryandhonor.com/index.php?page=15
He says he's using it in an iframe, so I'll try that. How do I make the scroll bars greyed out like him? Or even better, remove them? (I'm using dynamic iframe and the dkp stuff is on the same server). Also, how do I make clicked links open in the same frame, not a new window, like on the forementioned site?

If you have allow_url_fopen off in your php.ini configuration file, using the http:// method to reference the file will not work. See this link (http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.include.php) for more info...

From php.net: If "URL fopen wrappers" are enabled in PHP (which they are in the default configuration), you can specify the file to be included using a URL (via HTTP or other supported wrapper - see List of Supported Protocols/Wrappers for a list of protocols) instead of a local pathname. If the target server interprets the target file as PHP code, variables may be passed to the included file using a URL request string as used with HTTP GET. This is not strictly speaking the same thing as including the file and having it inherit the parent file's variable scope; the script is actually being run on the remote server and the result is then being included into the local script.

If you still want to include the file, you will have to reference it correctly using the relative path- which is from where TinyPortal is running, up/down the directory tree to the root directory, and then back down the directory to where the included file is stored.

This can be a daunting task in itself, to figure out how to go about that. One simple, but not recommended solution, is to put the file in the same directory as your forum.

Otherwise, you will need a path such as '../wow/bosskills.php' or similar as it reflects on your system. This would tell php to go up one directory, over to the 'wow' directory, and then locate 'bosskills.php' to run.

If you are see nothing at all, or a second loading of your homepage in the php block you're working on, this is from your server not being able to locate the file and following its '404 - not found' instructions; it either displays nothing, or redirects to your index.php for your site.

Your questions are now HTML-related at this point, pass the scope of support for TinyPortal. You will have to make the necessary changes to the script itself to enact those changes in the IFRAME call, as TP does not control any aspect of the scrollbars at that point, and add the TARGET="_self" to each <a href=... tag to open the links in the same window.
