Is it possable to upload a large file to the tp-download dir and then "add" it to the download manager?
Well..if you simply upload a small file - it can be anything - and call it the same as your file, you can re-upload through ftp the bigger file. mind you, the saved size will be wrong.
This needs to be improved.
I was wondering the same thing. Looking forward to future improvements.
Almost everyone trying to upload files in my forum just freeze if they try to upload anything over 3 MBs. A better upload method is definately a must.
What is TP and PHP set to in your site/server?

If you mean the server settings for timing out, I really don't know and don't have any control over that. So yeah logically if I had control over something like that I could find a solution. But I've never timed out in FTP to my service provider.
FTP and HTTP is different..so while you can ftp up well, it may fail on uploading through HTTP.
But I will add the option of just selecting files already ftp'ed up through a ftp program, never having to use the upload function at all. it will also filter out those you have already in the dl manager records.
the uploads dont really work well for me threw the download manager, when uploading big files i get
"The upload was not able to complete.This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.
Please consult your server administrator for more information."
gota ftp the big files and re-name it in the database.
Thats why I asked what the server settings are. If you're php config file is only allowing you to upload a 2 meg file, then uploading anything bigger through the HTTP part as Bloc pointed out will not be an option for you. Good thing Bloc can take care of things for you guys that don't have control over your php config. :)
I get that error too.
I don't quite get it, I checked my php.ini and it is at 2 megs. But with coppermine I can upload files bigger then that with no issues.
Why can I upload bigger files in other upload areas though?
(I can upload huge files on my other CMS's on the same server for example)
(I raised the limit in the .ini file but I presume that the server needs to be restarted.)
I will take a look at coppermine, it may be some custom uploading in steps done there. But...are you sure you can upload a 3-4 mb graphic file through coppermine?
yes...check the file size...
http://pixelmorgue.com/galleries/displayimage.php?album=4&pos=7
I uploaded this one, almost 4 megs. :)
I uploaded a 50 meg file through my personal site's uploader (e107 cms) and it's on the same server (pixelmorgue is actualy a subdomain)

Excellent idea.

Yes but I have the same case as evillair. I've uploaded up to 7-8 MBs with Coopermine with no problems. I only have that server problem in TP.
I looked some at coppermine, and it seems to use a different technique..exactly what the differences are, I am not sure right now. I will need to check further.
In my case, I changed the capacity of the allowed upload size to 50MB. And I don't have any problems uploading the files.
Can I define a usergroup different from admins, say moderators,
who will have access to managind download manager?
Thanks

With Coppermine you can specify the file types, and upload limits for each usergroup, so it should work for all files.

Yes. You just go into permissions, find the group and add the permission "manage downloads". They will also then be "pre-approved" in uploads of course.

U mean the permissions in SMF admin panel right?
There's no such option.
Uploading in steps.... Is that a plausible solution ?
I haven't found any info on that..so if it exists its well hidden.

Yes, there is. If everything went well during installation, you should have a "TinyPortal" section with 4 new permissions.
hm, problable sth didn't go well.
Which file is responsible for this section?
If I run it again now, will it work?
ManagePermissions.php is the spot where these appear. Try re-install and check any failures.
I couldn't install it through package and so I tried manual install and received the following errors.
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=2481.msg26496#msg26496
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=2481.msg26501#msg26501
I don't know if they are relevant to the problem, the tihng is that I still can't use package manager,
so how will i re-install it? By running tp_manual_install or that file with the strange number :) in front?
Well I re-run the intall_tp_manual and got the following
* Upshrink table exists
* Settings table exists
o Reset theme changer
o Updated version to 086
* Blocks table exists
* Variables table exists
* Articles table exists
* Dlmanager table exists
TinyPortalÂÃ,´s table structure is now installed/updated.
I suppose now everything should be ok, but in the permissions I again don't have any TP section ???
mm, did you do the manual modifications to among others, ManagePermissions.php?
:idiot2: :idiot2: :idiot2:
ManagePermisions is after index.template.php and I didn't see it.
When I made all the above changes and reached to index.template i closed the file (cos I thought i can get easy the theme from TP site) and didn't see the rest.
I'll do them now.
So stupid!
