Title: Home page content blocks
Post by: DonaldDasher on September 01, 2008, 02:37:18 PM
Is it possible to have two main article blocks on the main page, split 50/50 across the width?

example:

left column | Main page block 1 | Main page block 2 | right column

SMF 1.1.5
TP v1.0.5 beta

Did you look at your frontpage options in the admin panel Donald? Those are the only options you can get, and I'm sure one of theme will work for you.

If you look at the panel options for blocks, there are settings to display them side by side.

Many thanks for the tip! How do i set the widths to equally 50/50?

Here's what I'm getting:

Donald, take a close look. Where it says width of each block for this horizontal layout.

Fabulous - I found the setting ;-)

I seem to have problems when displaying HTML tables on the front page as the spacing is all messed up.

Can anybody help with this?

Can't view your frontpage as a guest, so I can't see what you're talking about. But that is probably due to you using an editor to create the table. If you used one. Take a look at the source of your table and look at all the extra code that the editors add in without being asked.

Can you view it now I've checked "Allow guests to browse the forum"?

There seems to be some discrepancies in my editor options. I use Safari on a Mac and I get no formatting tools, yet a friend gets a whole bunch of formatting tools using IE on a PC.

Like I said, its the code thats being inserted. If you view the source of your page you'll see there are a TON of < br /> tags that are separating everything.

Yeh, so I noticed - but how else do I get the block to format without using HTML?

I've now reverted to TP v0.9.8 - is there a panel option for viewing front page blocks side by side as i can't seem to find anything.

Not in TP 0.9.8. There is no option for those types of block layouts.

Arghh! And if I re-upgrade to the beta version I'll get those pesky category / articles bugs back?

I'm looking forward to the first stable version ;)

I guess I'll have to find a way to make one block with both left and right hand panels.

Why not change put some code into a block to make it appear like its two blocks side by side?

Yes, I'll create a table with left and right cells.
