Title: Slow forum due to a TP Block
Post by: ButtkickersKOL on August 03, 2008, 03:46:20 PM
My SMF/TP forum is slow opening post that users have posted in, after investigation with SMF support seem that my problem come from a custom TP block. I disable and removed most of them and kept some default block only, but I still have error and take a average of 64sec to open.
That my original post to SMF support, should answer the commun question.

If you have issues with a TP block, we prefer you tell us what block, what code you might be using in it and also a link to your site so we can check it out.
Clicking forward to SMF to see what issues you have with TP is not something we would like to do to support our product we have here ;)

Please add as much info you can in this topic, and also please, take your time and read our posting guide im linking to here
Please read the Posting Guidelines (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=581)

And we go from there.  :)

You forgot to mention what block and what code you use in the block that the topic was about  :2funny:

Anyway.

Error 3, is from SMF Arcade, and www.smfarcade.info have support for that one

Error 2 seem to be a custom block code issue, some url or DB path thats not correct or doesent go through to the db table it is suppost to fetch data from.

Error 1 I dont have a clue at all.

Disable everything. All custom blocks and articles. See if your slowness disappears.

Smoky, I think ButtkickersKOL is saying the problem relates to viewing an actual thread within the forum. I just tried it and had no probs going through the site until I went to a thread.  Here's the time it took

While the error may be pointing at TP, the error isn't the cause of your slow load time on the posting page for users who have posted in that page IMO. I would bring the page load time back up at SMF for more help.

You may need to remove TP to make sure its not causing anything though.

How do I manually install TinyPortal (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=29)

Reverse the order and manually uninstall TP

If you use the search you'll see that error has been covered many times. You don't need to uninstall manually, just upload a new TP package from this site and replace the old one in your package directory.

Sorry, it was late last night and I was very tired.
I uploaded a new TP package, and now I have this error, should I continue with the removal or replace the files in error?

Read the link im posting for you here.

Test FAILED on Installation? (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=32)

Also, you MUST set your forum to use NOTHING but defaults during the install.
It means, Default SMF Core theme and English default language.

Still the same errors with the default SMF core theme.
I guess I have to do a full manual install following the direction said in the previous link you gave me?

Well never mind, I get lost at step 5 and it sound like Japanese to me.....

I can pull apart a whole car bumber to bumber from the early 1950 up to today cars eyes closed, but this coding thing just blow my mind.

I will try to live with it or i will simply flush every thing down.

Do you have a lot of other mods installed? If not, instead of manually uninstalling stuff you can just replace your SMF files with a new set of files from the large upgrade package of your SMF version. This will replace all file and no modifications will exist. Meaning that you'll need to re-install all mods again. If the package manager works for you, then this would probably be the easier option.

I created a new forum with a different url, but both share the same problem.
My problem must be in the DB, the only part I still don't understand and probably never will.

http://buttkickers.buttkickerskol.com/index.php
http://buttkickerskol.com/forum/index.php

Could a Large Upgrade fix my multiple problem?
I don't mind loosing all the mods, I just don't want to loose all my users and their post.

The new forum, does it have the mods installed? Or is it a fresh install of only SMF? If it has the same problem, I would highly suggest consulting at SMF for more help before you do any upgrade or anything.

Fresh install of SMF and TP, I just changed Settings.php to direct to the DB.

Did you see if you have the same problem without TP installed on a fresh SMF?
Title: Re: Slow forum due to a TP Block
Post by: ButtkickersKOL on August 05, 2008, 05:07:04 AM
On the fresh installation, every thing was working fine, till I link the new forum to the old DB.

Definitely something to bring up at SMF. If you have "only SMF" installed, and no mods, when you link to the old database and its slow it needs to be repaired or something. Have you ran a repair on your database? If not, run the repair and optimize options in your admin panel. If its still slow, post at SMF for some database help.

I done all this, after posting to SMF support, they came out with a custom TP block problem. They suggested me to come here.  It look like I made a custom TP block that modified the DB, only block I can see I made was my old ShoutBox that I still use, and its not really a block, but it might be seen that way to SMF/TP. Its a old ShoutBox and I don't remember witch was the name or version.

I tried the large upgrade package, no mods installed and still slow to open a post.
Also, I get some TP error in my log and at the bottom of the pages.
Title: Re: Slow forum due to a TP Block

Im getting a bit confued now.

You say you have a clean SMF setup with out mods. It's not possible to get TP errsos in your log with a setup like that.

Upgrade ( big package) replace ALL files and will remove ALL mods from your SMF forum, so again, no TP errors should be in your log.

so lets start over.

1. What setup do you have ?
2. What mods have been installed ?
3. Link to your site so we can see what you have so far.
Title: Re: Slow forum due to a TP Block
Post by: ButtkickersKOL on August 06, 2008, 07:30:48 PM
Where to start? Im also getting confused a lot with all that.

First, I tried installing a fresh SMF/TP to a new  url/folder* and linked it to my old BD, making the changes with Setting.php...... Didn't work, same slow result when opening a post and same TP error in my log.

After, I tried replacing all with a large upgrade package from SMF. Same result.

1.SMF  1.1.5 I was using with TP 0.9.8 untill I put Upgrade pack.
2.Since the upgrade pack, none. Before that, I posted it earlier in that topic. Link (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=25288.msg202723#msg202723)
3.Original forum:             http://buttkickers.buttkickerskol.com/index.php

Ok, But what block is the forum halts on ?
If it's a custom block, what is the code used in that block ?

tested to browse both your sites. and non of them are slow on loading up for me.
The first link is however giving an error that you dont have a complete install of TP made there
Fatal error: Call to undefined function tportal_version() in /home/buttkick/public_html/buttkickers/Sources/Load.php(1726) : eval()'d code on line 502

You need to manually add tp to your SMF files according to the instructions found here
Modification Instructions (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=140)

From your second link, the site both looks pretty good and load fast.

QuoteKnight Online® is a registered trademark of MGame in the United States and/or other countries.
All related materials, logos, and images are copyright to © K2 Network.
Page created in 0.138 seconds with 17 queries.

There are however missing images in your menu bar, but that are nothing that effects your loading time.

So if i understand this correctly, it's the first link that are your "prime" site, and that site have a bad install of TP, so go for a manuall install there and you will probably be good to go from there.
I kinked to the modinstructions so you just have to add the code manually to the SMF files, and then point your browser to the manual_tp_install. php file and refresh the page.

WARNING though, the edits HAS to be mafde to nothing but the default SMF core theme, when you have it working fine in that theme, you simply add the forum button code to your custom theme.

So set your forum to default core, and work from there, you cannot so anything else..

I notice that TP installation was still on my server, so I did install TP that way, was that a mistake?
Because it went back to slow loading again.
Also where do I do the mod of the link you gave?

Why are you still using your custom theme ?  Use the default theme, not your custom theme, when things working in the default, we concentrate on your default theme, the base must be good first

Cut loading time by half going back default theme and why do I still see the custom them in "home"

Edit:

but

All is set to default unless I miss something...

Now.

1. Browse to SMF forum, download the big upgrade package, extract the file and upload/replace the files from the package with the files on your server ( your LIVE site  with the Default Core theme )

2. Point your browser to the upgrade.php file and let it update your database ( nothing will be lost )

3. When you have done that, come back here, PM me your account for FTP, and also admin for your forum.

FTP info i need is
FTP Url =
FTP User =
FTP Password =

Forum admin account = your account.

Fix the SMF files first as i described and if you run into troubble with that part, ask the SMF support to help you, When you have the forum working with everything in the DEFAULT Core theme, then i will install TP for you to your DEFAULT theme.

I will not do this to night, so take your time and do what i asked in a calm matter and things will be great later.
Send the info, and i will check to this to morrow

I used the big upgrade package 3 hours ago, I only added TP to it. Do I need to do it again? Or uninstall TP only?

I already have a support admin account setup for both, I will look for the pass and will send you info in pm.
