Post by: mandos on February 05, 2006, 03:14:35 PM
just upgrated my site with TP 0.86 and the error log is on fire, it seems to be generating pages all the time :P

the error that it gives is:

Mandos    Today at 17:14:34
8: Undefined index: current_action
File: /home/www/tio.gr/Sources/TPortal.php
Line: 248

and also gives an error in live 250 of the same file
any ideas?

i still don't get  it :-\

in the themes section of the forum there is nothing new for 1.0.6 and TP 0.86
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat7 (we're talking about this page right?)

i'm using the default smf theme (but since i have other themes installed this might be a problem)
and the errors are only produced by my account only, no one else of my users produces any errors (i suppose i should be a happy webmaster  for having such users  )

Did you download your copy of TP v 0.86 after Feb. 1st? I believe Bloc made a correction to the files which may help with your errors.

Well, I think due to the popularity of TP, that many of us forget this is beta programing.
We are here to test TP, and report errors back to Bloc, who will either fix them in the next release, or post a fix we can apply.
As long as the errors do not break your forum, report them and wait for it to be fixed.
And remember, use beta programing at your own risk. Clear your error log now and then, and have faith your voice was heard.

for the record: with smf 1.1rc2 everything works ok
the only reason I was having smf 1.0.6 was that i wanted TP to run, since tp 0.86 runs on smf1.1rc2 there's no reason for keeping 1.0.6 :)

Humm okay.
www.farementocity.net/forums (installed then removed TP)
www.wesleytupelo.net (Tp is installed)
But I dint see what that would tell you.

I'm not hoppin mad or anything.  I think the software is a blast. The only problme is that any hack attempts are lost in 105 pages of errors.
I havent upgraded to the new SMF because for a while I was hacked every other day on the farementocity site.  Not a lot of mods .. just a change in the admin PHP that blocks IPs.

BTW:I'm noob so if you spout a lot of PHPhrases at me you will lose me .

A lot of the errors come from the wrong themes for the SMF installed. so many times those who know about this can easely sort out if thats the way even this time.
So thats why a link to the forums reporting errors are good to provide.

Then IchBin wrote a postingguide for us all to read.

ItÂÃ,´s for making help with errors and other thing easy and not just get a post with

HELP, i got this error... and nothing to back up, then they have to write as i did. ( link to the forum ? ) and if they need to loggin, they need a temp account loggin so they dont have to register to several new sites every day just to help out.

We need them, so we can offer some assistanse i think ?  8)

Yea like I said..a noob.  There is iron in your words too. However I had read the thread and what it was essentially saying was.. "upgrade SMF"  The other forum I work with www.thegreat88.net  now has the same problem.  All use the Neptune it seems.   I like the sidebar on the Neptune.  I happen to think Bloc is a genius.

Please understand that I am not a genius and probably dint even spell it correctly. It very well could be something I have done, for sure.  I dunno. Also I have no idea what you need until told .  I appreciate any help and considered the upgrade advice..but the one thing I do have is a bit of experience. So far that tells me "more problems" that especially for a noob is frightening territory. I took a look at the SMF forums and there are problems with the upgrades.  Also, as I mentioned..security issues.

I installed TP on a forum (farementocity.net) then uninstalled it.
I installed TP on a new install (thegreat88.net) and kept it.
I have it on a not so new forum (wesleytupelo.net)
All carry the neptune theme. All produce a error when anyone loads a page. Right now it doesnt slow the progress of the forum but it's critical that I watch the error messages for signs of hacking.

By the way..thanks for helping..
Okay this may help too. I changed the theme to the farementocity.net to black22 and tooled around and get not errors. So it may be the Neptune that has the problem..wonder if any of the above used only the Neptune?

Rats I like the side information panels.

this is the errors I was getting before changing to black.(which I am changeng back to Neptune as soon as I post this.

Absolutly not. Im quite new to this myselfe so i dont even know 5% of it all  :idiot2:, but i do know after all my own post and all the feed back i have been reading here for the last two month what the Admins / Moderators ask for quite often.
And that was the thing i replyed to in your question.
Every post with a question and a reply with an answer to solve the issue or error, gives more meet on the bones for all of us in here.
I hope that someone will give you the feedback to ypur error so you can fix it and be happy SMF and TP user  8)

So come on here folks, anyone here that can give a hint on his errors and what to do to solve them?

Ooookaty. Experiment number two.  Site www.thegreat88.net where TP is still installed. I loaded Black22 up on it and guess what..no error logs at all.. with the Neptune I get one every time i click.  I'd sure love to keep neptune.

Thanks for the help. And Carina I understand.  I tend to come off sarcastic when I just try to make folks understand.  Thanks for your input.

Try to remove the neptune theme compleatly, uninstall it from Admin and then remove all the files from the themes folder.
Download a brand new Neptune theme from here, http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item96

im not sure that is uppgraded for TP 0.8 and thats why you get the errors, but thats the theme for TP 0.75 with SMF 1.0.6. The closest you can get to your version of SMF and TP 0.86

Carina is right..the 1.0.6 version of Neptune isn't updated for TP0.8. I will shortly get all SMF1.0.5/6 TP-enabled themes up to speed. Mainly its the ones that have TPortalBlocks.template file in them - that has changed a lot since TP0.7.5. So removing that file from Neptune will fix the errors..but Neptune will look a bit strange in the sidebar then. :P

Confused yet..? :)

Anyway, I will go over them, just been so busy with the 1.1 theme versions I guess, seems to be most popular ones these days.

Ive got the same error log entry problem...only its Black22 that Im using when they occur.  I checked, and there is not a TPortalBlocks.template file (or any other "TP" related files) contained in my black22....could this be the problem?

I just upgraded to 106 and TP086 and had several issues to straighten out before I could get things functioning at all.  So, this continuous stream of error logs isnt "as" important to me at the moment, but, it is hard to track errors from guests/members due to the rate of generation.  I cleared nearly 500 pages off (from the time I started the upgrades) earlier this morning and afew hours later, (and I personally was not online during this time)....I had 11 pages already.

Some of these errors are directed from the "default theme" folder, which of course Im not using.
One example....
http://www.kbkustoms.com/forum/smf/index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=modules
8: Undefined index: submissions
File: /home/......./...../kbkustoms.com/forum/smf/Themes/default/Admin.template.php (eval?)
Line: 28

Ive got several more unique errors, but I dont want to post all of them and hog up space in this thread.

I cant use package manager due to current hosts security settings, so, I have to do the manual install.  So, if RC11 is running well with TP086, I may just bite the bullet and upgrade (again) but, I dont look forward to it and would rather keep 106 for now....takes forever for me to do the manual install, so, I must take the site offline for extended periods...which isnt good for my members of course.

Anyway....all this aside....I commend Bloc for his continued efforts in making this KILLER software available to us!!!  THANKS Bloc!!! :)

1.06 is only an upgrade for 1.05. RC1.1 is newer than both. You cant go from RC1 to 1.06.

Sorry, Gerrymo....not sure if I confused you, but I just upgraded 105 to 106.
I realize RC11 is newer than those...Im just not looking forward to more downtime for another upgrade if I go from 106 to the RC11.  Some of my members may not be as patient as others if I have another extended period of downtime so soon.

KBkustoms ;

Can you install a test site to SMF 1.0.6, then use your SQL tables from your main site to populate your test site. Then do a practice upgrade on your test site to see what problems you may face, if any? If you can, this would shorten any down-time to a minimum.

The "Downtime" is not worth worrying about unless you have a very large site.

It should be right in your Neptune TP folder. If you delete it form there, Neptune will use the one from default folder - which is newer. But the custom one for Neptune has layout changed a bit, to make it look better in the theme.

I am trying to use the wC3xhtml validation tool and it keeps showing 8 errors. I only posted 4 here to give the general idea. It doesn't seem to affect the forum operation. It doesn't leave internal error codes either. When viewed with Internet Ex, it shows error on the page. Couple of questions. Does validation really matter or is it needed? Where would I look for these errors? Index.php?  It speaks of lines, which I understand, but what columns is it referring to? Is there a program of some kind that would help me here?

QuoteError  Line 86 column 798: there is no attribute "nowrap".

...pan="2" class="bar_name"><div nowrap="nowrap" style="bar_name"><a href="#" on

QuoteError  Line 86 column 2640: document type does not allow element "td" here.

...<td style="width: 62px;height: 39px;"><img alt="gfx" src="http://so.gamedaemo

QuoteError  Line 86 column 2854: document type does not allow element "td" here.

...<td style="width: 19px;height: 39px;"><img alt="gfx" src="http://so.gamedaemo

...dding: 0px; margin: 0px;" /></td></tr></table></td></tr><tr><td valign="top">

You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".

Hopefully this is explained well enough to understand.

I need to go trough all code, and i am sure there are quite a few errors to correct - old tags and non-closed tags even.

They are all in template files, and no, they won't hurt anything really...but its very important to follow a standard so your site/script show exactly the same on all browsers. Especially with all the new gadgets nowadays that can show webpages. Some require a "translation" from html to another format, and they rely on it being a set standard.

Yes, any TP-adjusted theme can be used.
