This is propably wrong board for this topic, but I was wondering how I could join the TP beta testing group?
I have run one forum now about 5 years, starting with Yabb. During years I have tried some mods and some I have done myself, mainly using SSI functions.
Finally I found TP, and this might be the answer what I have been looking for.
I'm working with major upgrade with my site and forum. I have just prepared everything in order with SMF 1.1 RC2.
Now I'm waiting for a new release of TP to get the new site up and running.
To get my project one step forward, I would be interested to join the beta testing, if possible.
Who should I contact and what are the terms?
Perhaps there is something about this already on the forum, but I could'n find the answer easily.
Thank you. :D
The TP version to work with RC2 is 0.8x. At the moment it is still being Alpha tested and we still have some work to do.
And what nokonium forgot to mention was that just by registering here, you have automatically become a beta tester.
There are a small handful that are also alpha testers (i.e. work to find the site killing bugs/issues). You cannot sign up to become an alpha tester, you have to be selected for it. I am not sure what criteria Bloc uses, so I cannot tell you what that criteria is.
Now, Bloc is very close to his next beta release, which will work for 1.1 RC2, so just have a little patience.
Rasyr,
would you reccomend me upgrading?
I'm now using:
SMF 1.1 RC1 with Oxygen / TinyPortal v.0.75 by Bloc
The most sought after change our members currently is a more flexible calendar (with repeating events), more flexible "Poster Information" and some ftp/download thingy..
No, SMF should go gold reasonably soon and TP 0.8 is still in alpha testing. For a live forum you want stable versions.
I have to agree with nokonium. Wait until TP 0.8 is out since that will work with 1.1 RC2 without having to manually make the installation.
Once TP is ready, then yes, I would say that updating would be a good idea, but only after you test it locally first. Upgrading from 1.1 RC1 to 1.1 RC2 is a major upgrade, and it can be quite a hassle (especially if you have other Mods installed). I ended up having to delete most of the pages, and then re-uploading the attachments, and other files from a local backup that I kept.
1.1 RC2 contains major code changes, and very few of your mods will work. You will have to see if the folks who made those mods have updated them as well.
So I'm best off going for 1.1 (gold) and TP 0.8 final ?
