ii have been attempting to install, no luck. first its my wifi, and getting the updated smf 1.1.4 into the ftp and up on the site..
now i get a fatal error.. sad.
i have the package folder and the temp folder chmoded to 777.. this is really making me rethink on tp. sad but true. i shouldnt have to fight with code for a good result, nor do i really need this.. it is a pretty that i would like to have, with the shout box, and perhaps the glossary but in all honesty, tp isnt ready for me.. i have tried..
i now have the thing installed, with results the same as last night.. if anyone wishes to look at this, be more than glad to.. its showing tp is there, but the tp admin isnt even showing, not even a box that says tp, no copywrite, no change no missing text, no nothing. same as last night..
i know what some people will say: "manual" install. by why should i do a manual when it is supposed to just go right on up and be applied.. i followed the entire steps, i moved my db form my old site, into a directory on the main domain, and then one on my sub (where the site normally sits, same results..)
dont tell me you all each and every one of you, did the manual install.. i know that there is an easy way of this, but right now, i just got my usb stick, and going to go play with my graffix and dreamweaver..
im wondering what smf would look like if i ran that thru it.. im sad to say this, but im really frustrated right now, and yeah its beta.. but im beta too. :'(
if anyone is interested in looking into this, pm me. meantime, im going to go learn about my new toy, the readyboost option and packing up all my graffix programs into the thing.. yay more ram for my lappy.. wish it was that easy with tp :-\
Guarantee thats its not a TP or SMF problem. Its as server problem. It always boils down to permissions and security on the server. Whether it worked before is besides the point. If you create and install a fresh SMF (do not use or copy other files), and you are still unable to install TP into SMF it is a server issue. I could give you access to my server right now and you'd have no problem installing it. The frustration you are having should be aimed at your host. I'd take a look, but right now I'm preparing to pull a long shift for today and tomorrow at work for a big upgrade. Sorry.
hmm server? then why when my host has the latest and greatest, the files for my domain are my own, is it a server issue? and exactly what would the issue be? :'(
yes i did brand new smf, then brand new smf upgrade, and know that i can change any permissions on there, and they go to what i have it at.. i even made sure, going to the page in the smf doc's, that everything was chmoded?? and did transfer everything again today, file after file, not just the whole thing all at once.. so im not missing anything.. :-\
i would be more than happy for you to look at this ICH, when ever you can.. i am not in a hurry, nor is this a paid job i have to have complete, but my umm happiness could use a boost on this.. so if anyone else that wants to look at this, and think they can figure it out, dont be scared to post.. ;)
ok.. both my host and i spent about an hour trying to figure this out.. and guess due to the responses here, everyone is busy.. so im going to take some time off, again, and go enjoy myself.. maybe when i get back things will be easier/better/fixed/or?? but at this time, im on a tpp free vacation..

jpg, i did run the repair_settings.php. my host and i went all thru the chmods, and we double checked the server.
at this time, i am not putting the tpv1 on my subdomain. but i thank you for your help. :coolsmiley:

Check if there is a folder called temp in your Packages directory, if there isn't create one and chmod it to 777.
If that doesn't work try chmodding your folders to 755 instead of 777 or 666.
This is a permissions error.
Your server might have advanced security options or safe mode restriction turned on.
there was a folder called temps in there, chmoded to 777.. :-\
but i have killed the whole test area now.. perhaps at another time i will attempt it, but i will not be able to use the db i have on my sub domain for it.. it just wont work.. i dont know what all i could do besides kill that db for it to work.. i have no problems on a local test area or a fresh install of smf/tp but with my db i have now it is a no go.. i will not keep trying with it cuz all i am doing is wasting my time trying to figure it out.. i have gone thru the check lists i have done what i am supposed to but i am saying now, it will not go.
i have tried the 755 also.. i have run out of trying. i have too much info i would hate to loose if i just killed the db.. so.. i go tp less, well tpv1 less. no biggie.
unless bloc or storm wishes to look at this, there is nothing else i can do.. will miss learning from here, but i guess when a door closes another one will open.. but my subdomain will not work with the beta..

Tell your host to check the permissions for the php temp upload folder and to make sure that php has enough permissions and quota to be able to write that much. If you were able to install it previously, and you can't install it now... How can it not be a server issue?

This is not working any longer Smoky.
The past week i have installed over 40 SMF and tp, i have done 10+ upgrades, and no single issue what so ever except the errors allready posten in the bugtracker.
This is done to several diffrent servers and hosts, subdomains, root directories and still no issues except the ones posted in the bugtracker.
If your host cant find the issue cause IT IS and i will not say it one more time cause WE cannot help you with the issues you have, our script works, we have tested it numerous times, and if your host tell you it's not the server, they dont know and should not run a hosting company.
Your posts about your issues starts to get really annoying and you dont even listen to what ichBin tell you and he have knowlage of both the scipt and server side.
Also Tick that run a hosting service dont have any issues with it eather, if they had, they would have been the first to tell us.
Stop this caause this is just irritating and annoying. We are not to blame for your hosts iggnorans and lack of knowlage to run their server.

To me this PROVES that its your host. If you are able to install it on the top level domain, and NOT on a subdomain there is some permission issue that is not allowing TP/SMF to make the necessary changes. I've seen this before with other issues like attachments and smilies. Take a look at this topic at SMF.

Please send me the login details for FTP and phpmyadmin access etc. Do me a favor first. Install a fresh SMF to the sub domain and NOTHING else. Do NOT use any exisiting database for the sub domain or any old files. Everything should be brand spanking new. :)

Now, I want to voice my opinion, I also think it's a server issue.
When you try to install TP, you say it says installed, but have to checked to see if the files are there?
one thing first here, little history about the database in question, it is a "split" im guessing as the database used to hold 2 forums. i tried to install (the tpv1 with it) on both the sub domain and the regular domain, with no go for the upgrade and this error for the topic. (( using the copied database. ))
however. using a new database, with new smf and new smf upgrade (just to be sure) and then the new tp, it works.. i tried the "new install "on the sub domain too, and that works, but i took it down as i am only allowed 5 databases.. i could ask for more but 5 is enough lol..
so if the new db install with tp works, http://www.pixelbypaint.com/alpha (i havent touched it other than to get it up) my question is, it must be the database that i copied that is causing the issue..

more i think on this, it is a bad database causing this issue. perhaps where i had at one time the 2 forums in it, and was unable to move them both. this is what is causing it to be upgradeable. i can do the install with a fresh db.. but i wont do a thing till ICH can look at this..
again sorry for bothering anyone on this issue that i brought on myself. had i just scrapped tg, i wouldnt be here asking why it is screwed up. i just wanted to save my site, due to i wasnt going to use the domain at all..
Well I first let me just clarify something.
http://www.pixelbypaint.com/alpha <--- this is not a subdomain. This is a folder inside your top level domain. A subdomain would be http://forum.pixelpaint.com/
There is a big difference. You've gone so many directions in here and have probably used the wrong terminology such as subdomain, that I'm not sure where you are at, at this point. Let me review this and see if I will have some time tonight. Though, I doubt it because tonight is another all nighter for work upgrade. Will let you know when I am able to spend some time to work on it. But I will take a few minutes right now just to look at it.

i was talking to bloc, and had i have remembered to put all the info on the database, and what i had going on, before i moved the database from one domain to another, (before, it had 2 smf/tp installs, different names, etc.,) but i wasnt clear.
i was just writing on what the errors were, and not the prior.. Bloc is looking at this now, and i dont want to get confused lol.. but i hope we can get this out into the forum, so if someone else gets a "hair-brained" idea like me, they will know how to fix it..
i did have a new install of the smf/tpv1 on the sub domain, and it was working.. this database has had 2 forums in it.. perhaps this is the case or not, but i know Bloc will post about what he finds.
if you wish to look with him, that is fine with me.. just post here so that i dont get all lost.. lol.. i have had enough on the lost bit, and didnt mean to confuse anyone.. i should have stated before on the dual install and i didnt.. i do apologize on it, but i was more worried on the errors, and forgot about the dual until last night early this am..
Ok, whether it be by PM or in here could you provide with the details of what you're trying to do? Where is your current forum? Where do you want to move it? What versions are the original, and what versions do you want in the new location? Any other details you think I need to know would be great too.
