Having caused an fatal error which was regarding a conflict involving turning on support for Support for Ultimate Shoutbox 1.40 mod.
I now want to integrate SOME shoutbox, but do not want any conflicts.
In the process described in my "Fatal Error" thread from yesterday, I removed the Block containing the Shoutbox. I currently have:
"TP Advanced Shoutbox" toggled OFF
As well as the support option
Please note that in the Current Themes panel, the Support options are:
Support for TinyPortal 0.9.8 mod? (Unchecked) - Using TP1.0.5
Support for SMF Arcade 2.0.8 mod? (Unchecked)
Support for Ultimate Shoutbox 1.40 mod? (Unchecked)
Support for SMF Gallery Lite 1.7.4 mod? (Unchecked)
Support for Ad Management 2.3 mod? (Checked)
Support for Googlebots & Spiders 2.0.3 mod? (Unchecked)
Support for Global Announcements 1.0 mod? (Unchecked)
Support for SMF Shop 3.0 mod? (Unchecked)
And here are the installed Packages:
1. TinyPortal 1.052
2. Ad Managment 2.3
3. Auto Embed Video Clips 2.1.5
4. Location on Member List 1.0
5. Previous and Next Links for Page Index 1.0
6. Zodiac_13Moon 2.2
7. EmailFlash 2.0
8. SMF Gallery Lite 1.8.3
Bottom line, which is the best/most stable version to use with SMF v1.1.4, using a TinyPortal 1.052
and what are the steps to make it available to place in a left panel block?
Thanks!
which theme are you talking about?
Also in Beta 2 all the shoutbox bugs are fixed as far as i know but its not out yet.
Glad you got the other thing sorted.
For the supported Mods:
You show SMF Gallery Lite 1.8.3 as installed so you can turn that on and it will set the links to your gallery for you... it will also work the same for SMFGallery Pro should you later install it.
You also show Ad Management 2.3, so that one is OK to turn on.
As for the shoutbox, my own personal preference would the the TP Advanced Shoutbox module, but I've never used the Ultimate Shoutbox so someone else may have a different opinion.
EDIT: Because this is a new topic you should do as StormLrdâ,,¢ pointed out and list all of the information called for in the posting guide, including your theme because some people will not be aware of your previous topic.
Sorry, I am using the Tolkien TP Theme which has "TP Advanced Shoutbox v1.0" which seems to be available in the TinyPortal > Admin > Modules along with Bloc's "TP Test Module" (what is that anyway?)
Should I just wait for Beta 2? When is that due for release?
Thanks Ken...
I am a bit gunshy, so, do I simply activate the TP Advanced Shoutbox and proceed from there to add it to a Block?
And then - go forward by checking the support?
OOps, I think that's where I got into problems before...
You activate the TP Advanced Shoutbox in your module control panel and then you make a "TP Module" block and select the shoutbox module during the setup.
EDIT: If you are going to use the TP Advanced Shoutbox then you DO NOT turn on "Support for Ultimate Shoutbox 1.40 mod?"
Easiest way to NOT mess is to simply use the SMF Default CORE theme when you add blocks, activate modules and so on and when it's working in that theme, install the theme you want to show.
But make sure everything is working OK in default first cause if it dont work there, it will not work in anything esle you install and try eather.
Again G6 - Your instruction to use "Core" is Golden and should be prominant in ALL SMF Mod Docs... I will follow this wisdom.
Indeed, in the final analysis, this is where I went wrong.. I confused the Shoutbox Mods as their names were similar... Ultimate/Advanced etc.
I WAS using the TP Advanced Shoutbox and checked to support the Ultimate Shoutbox (which wasn't installed).
I was getting errors in the SMF Error Log regading the Shoutbox, and erroneously thought checking the support option, I would get help resolving the errors.
I think I now understand that by using the TP version, the "support" is built in re: the TinyPortal Section of SMF Admin.
It's a shame the option exists in the theme options when the mod isn't installed. It should be grey'd out or something (along with those other "uninstalled Support" checkboxes).
I was happy with the TP Advanced Shoutbox you (Ken) suggest, but have some reservations because of the errors in the log.
If the new version will be out soon, I'll wait.
What do you suggest?
There has been no time table set for the next release, nor will one be set because the work will be done as free time permits. It will be released when its ready.
bas123, make sure you understand the difference in some things here. The options you see inside your theme settings are ONLY if you have the mods installed from SMF. The TP shoutbox comes with TP. You enabled the SMF shoutbox thinking it was the tinyportal shoutbox, which is not the case. I hope you get it now.
I do think I have it...
Again, I just wish the support options (checkboxes) for non-installed Mods didn't appear unless they were available.
I am going to turn over Admin (or at least Global) to someone else who has to learn the system from scratch and has NO authoring experience. I'd hate to see her do anything to mess it up. I'll make sure she reads all of the SMF tutorials first.
I'm going for it now...
All you guys are great!! :-*
Just give her the advice that you shouldn't check any box, or enable any feature unless you are sure you know what it does. To me, it makes perfects sense as it says "Enable support for blah blah mod". That should tell you that it just enables support for the mod, it doesn't say "installs blah blah mod".
Of course you're right, but again, I don't think I am alone in confusing "TP Advanced Shoutbox" with "Ultimate Shoutbox" when you consider that I am new to shoutboxes in general.
Nuf said, now I'll start a new thread on another hacker subject!
