Oke, I will try!  Sorry. It is a SMF 1.14 forum with a copy of the userbase from one of my operational sites. I'm very new to TP and I decided to test it because Joomla! and SMF do not seem to get bridged soon and SMF is more important to me then cms.

I installed TP_0983.zip via the admincenter and all went well. Here is the link to my development and testsite: http://www.e-templars.net/zwaardkring/forum/index.php

I was fiddling around to get the blocs activated and -forgive me- I activated all blocs, Ultimate Shoutbox included. Since then SMF loads with the orange bar with black printing: You have turned on support for Ultimate Shoutbox, but it doesn't seem the mod is actually installed!

And the error message: Shoutbox

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: smfshout() in /home/httpd/vhosts/e-templars.net/httpdocs/zwaardkring/forum/Sources/Load.php(1735) : eval()'d code on line 352

Cant do anything with SMF anymore.  :o

So there you go: I can get into anything now bevcause of the shoutbox error.

You need to install the shoutbox module in your TP Administration and Modules.
When you come there, you see 2 shoutbox modules that comes with th package. Install one of them and then make an TP-Modules block in panels and blocks and choose it to be shoutbox.

This HAS to be done in SMF Default Core theme.

I see the misunderstanding: I activated the setting to see the blocks in the adminpanels ... hence getting into the adminpanel is impossible .... :(

No, no luck. Since it is just a testboard I will go back to 1.14, make a mental note, re-install TP and know what not to do now. Thankx for the speedy replies!

Another mental note: Always perform a backup before making any changes!!! :)

I have done this a few times and the only way I could get it back was to do a restore from my last backup. Good luck.

QuoteI will go back to 1.14

You mean you have SMF 2 installed there ?   That version will not work at all with TP or any of the themes we have on this site.

No, no ... back to the original SMF 1.14 without TP and then install TP.

And it is a testboard, no harm done.

Murgen, all of the points mentioned here are important as you work with your files so take note of them all.
And, you are already doing one of the most important things by having a test board... good job

Thank you Ken.

I started the morning by getting TP back on the road. To cut the story short: I managed. But I have a question as well:

Test configuration @ http://www.e-templars.net/ontwikkelsite/forum/index.php (http://www.e-templars.net/ontwikkelsite/forum/index.php)

Version Information:
Forum version: SMF 1.1.4 (more detailed)
Current SMF version: SMF 1.1.4
PHP version: 4.3.10
MySQL version: 4.1.15-log
Server version: Apache/2.0.51 (Fedora)
GD version: bundled (2.0.28 compatible)

Fresh install was a success.

Question: what is the best way to proceed from here? Can I overwrite the SMF-records with a copy of one of my operational site to see if that works?

I will check these forums for tips and hints anyway. Take care.

I see by looking at your site that you've updated to TinyPortal v0.9.8 and that's good.

Just to be clear for the Tolkien theme that you are running... please do not turn on support for any of the Mods that you see listed in your "Current Theme" control panel unless you have already installed the Mod.

I'm not sure what you are asking on the SMF-records, do you refer to your database tables? If so then the answer is yes and you'll find lots of good info on SMF for importing a backup copy of your db into your test forum.

EDIT: Always use the SMF Default theme when you are doing any edit work in your forum files.

For the original problem: the error with smfshout() is because you didn't install the Ultimate Shoutbox, as Ken mentions you need to install the mods too..the theme only can be made to support them, thats all. It won't install it for you.

That is what I learned. Interesting part is: because of the error is was impossible to enter the admin panel and switch off the settings. I tried to identify the file with the settings (via FTP) and in the database (via MyPHPadmin) but no luck.

Would be great to know the backdoor to the TP-settings just in case or some built-in protections for morons like me :)

You need to go back in to your default theme and set the theme you're using to NOT use the shoutbox mod. action=admin;theme=1 to get you back to the default theme.

Oke guys, I just want to say that I'm getting used to TP now. I have 2 test-sites up and running, both with a copy of an operational database now and I'm learning myself how TP looks and feels and needs to be fondled upon to do what I want.

Both communities need a forum more then cms and TP makes a lot much easier to me then Joomla! did.

TP reminds me a lot about my first experiments with a portal, MyIBPortal from yauws.com :D  Needless to say TP is far more advanced.  :2funny:

This made the day

Glad to see some one trying and exploring things on testsites, thats the best way to learn and it doesent matter if you crash it, just start over and keep on learning  :D

Thanks. :)

As a matter of fact, the complexity of Joomla and the innovativeness of MyIBPortal is exactly what got me started with TP back in 2004. Since the author of that portal stopped public use of it - due to abuse/stealing from another now-forgotten portal lol - there was no real alternative. MKPortal of course, but it wasn't really SMF friendly, just tagged on top of SMF. So TinyPortal was born.

Nice meeting you all Bloc-wizards.

Now and then I post something on Kevin 'Yauws' his forum. Thanks to him I had my first 3 Invision forums 'portalized'. The theft hit him hard and it is a pity he stopped but fully understandable.

Yes, a pity. I liked that one very much.
