Title: I Can't Layout My Front Page the Way I Want...
Post by: Craw on April 08, 2008, 12:03:19 PM
Hi,

I can't seem to layout my front page the way I want using TP. My Shoutbox only appears when I put it in the Front Page blocks, but it appears under all the articles & forum posts. When I put it in the Left block it doesn't show.

I've got Left Panel turned on, Right Panel turned off, Center Panel turned on.

I can't seem to get the blocks to show when on the forum...

Here's what I have:
Link to my site: http://forum.hostilecore.com
SMF version: SMF ver. 1.1.4
TP version: TP ver. 0.983
Theme name and version: BlackRain 1.1 by Crip
Mods installed: Add Sitepreview's, RSS Feed Poster, MemberGroup Pre/Postfix, 3guks PJIRC Integrated Chat Mod, Stars And Badges, Treasury. TinyPortal
Related Error messages: None, really.

Uhm, anything else I forgot to mention? Oh, yes, I have already searched the forum, read the How-To's and the Guides, etc. :'(

Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

Try
Admin->(TP)Settings->Front page->How frontblocks will be shown: and choose: Frontblocks are added first

This should show your frontblock, with the shoutbox inside, before the articles and post an shown.

Hope that helps.

Hi ianus,

Thanks for the reply, but nothing changed when I try that. I also did a force refresh on Firefox (CTRL+F5) but the blocks still won't show.

are different things.

If you want to show blocks at your board, look at
Admin->(TP)Settings->Panels
There you can set which pannel is shown while browsing your board.

If you want to show your shoutbox inside the board, you have to put it as block-code in a pannel.

As the name intend, Frontpage-Blocks can only shown at the frontpage. You can't show then in boardview.

Hi ianus,

Yes, I only put the Shoutbox in the Front page block to see if it will appear on the front page, and it did. I did that just to check. After that I put it back in the Left Panel block, but then it doesn't show anywhere, even in the forum.

I've tried playing around with the settings but the left blocks still won't show...

make sure you Save after you edit, or else it's like you have hiden the block...it does what you tell it to. :)

Hi Crip,

Firstly, excellent theme! Needless to say I love it.

Secondly, yes I do save after every edit to the Manage Blocks section.

Thirdly, OK, I'll edit it now :D Is there some 'required format' for the TP copyright?

LOL @ ZTN.

The requirement is that you should leave it alone. People work hard to do this stuff, and leaving the credits is the least you can do to thank them. Just put them back to the original.

IchBin,

Don't misunderstand. I didn't do ANYTHING to the copyright. I know I should leave it there and give them credit. I was also wondering why it wasn't showing the first time but I was also too busy trying to get my blocks to work. I guess I owe Crip another thank you for reminding me about the copyright. I find it weird it didn't put it there automatically.

I've seen how TP works with other sites, and the fact that it's free (and SMF, too) certainly deserves credit to the author/s.

:)

Actually you did do something. The version number isn't there for TP...

IchBin,

Oh, OK. When I added the copyright after Crip told me to I didn't think the version number was important. Sorry. My mistake. I'll fix it right now.

EDIT: Done! (That's one of the 'format requirements' I was asking about, actually)

TBH, I'm not sure if the version number is required by Bloc. But it sure helps for us to see what version you're running when we look at your site for support. :)

LOL @ IchBin.

Oh, well. It's OK. So, back to the topic. Can anyone help me why I can't seem to figure this out?

Don't want to write something off-topic (sorry), but want to reply.

Look at
http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/greetings.html

I try to be polite and imho “greetings” is a accurate translation for a german version to say „Hello“ -> Grüße!

Is something wrong with the way I use it? Don't want to cause offence.
