I keep getting this error on a brand new install of SMF 1.14 and TP 1.05. Here is the error:
QuoteDatabase Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /home/wallyjar/public_html/test2tp/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 2008
I can navigate the SMF fine, all pages work, but when I do the APPLY MOD for 1.05, It hands and then I get this error? Any ideas?
Wally
That is a server issue and you will have to contact your host about it.
The site looses connection with your database during the install.
Thanks G6, I thought that might be it...

Try going to>>Admin>>Packages>>Options>>All files are writable.>>Click>>Change file permissions.
makes folders/files 777 -- works for somethings?
For TP instalation use Internet Explorer(7) instead of FireFox.
It worked for me(the same error).
Good luck
I recently went to SMF and their site looking for instructions on installing TinyPortal but they said it is not compatible with SMF 1.1.4.
I've been looking in the TP package I downloaded and cannot find basic instructions either. Where to place files, etc. - I saw an install.php (maybe named differently) but did not know where to ftp the files.
So, 1) is it compatible? and 2) where do I find installation instructions on this site? - If it's in the Docs folder, I missed it (except for the manual install).
Thanks
TinyPortal is compatible with SMF 1.1.4 and you install it by going to your SMF package manage and then doing an upload/install of the TP zip package that you download from here.
Thanks, I'll give it a try... I haven't had much luck with any of the Mods using the package manager as they've all come up as "incompatible"..
One other Q... I've done a lot of reformatting of a theme called "Space Sea v.21" Is there a lot involved in integrating TP with this existing theme, or do I need to download one of the TP Themes and start over?
As a general rule you should only have to add a "Forum" button/link to your custom theme, but for one thats had a "lot of reformatting" you would just need to see if you are able to add the button... most likely it would work OK.
Also, there are many custom themes by Bloc available here on TP that already have TP support built in so that all you would need do is turn it on.
hey mate, i solved my problem by creating a temp folder on the Packages directory and giving it 777 rights :) try it out might help you :)
"mysmffolder/Packages" <- created temp here making it
"mysmffolder/Packages/temp"
good luck :)
All is well... I uploaded TP and am busy configuring. WOW, and then I have to teach it to someone else.
A couple of glitches... I added the TPAdvShout Mod (I've noticed empty img placeholders on other's sites) but the expand and collapse images were missing. The program was looking in a subfolder of my 'Theme/blabla/images/tinyportal' folder which didn't exist... so I created it and found the images at http://web.sl-mania.com/Themes/default/images/tinyportal/ hope you guys don't mind).
Another is that In the shoutbox module in admin under Adv-Shoutbox Block Settings, the option for "compact" or "expanded" and height & width do not seem to work. I wonder if that option only works in a top or bottom panel!!!
Another biggie, I was unable to deactivate the SMF welcome which was showing up (along with the TP welcome) on the front page.
I removed the "General" Board and then recreated it, which made it go away, but then I am unable to get ANY blocks to show up there... (I created an "article" and placed it in the top panel & set it for front page only)
Any and all thoughts are welcome...
If you change the structure and start adding things of your own to the files, they will stop working.
Instead, you SHOULD have checked why the file were missing, if one file or folder were missing, there are probably more thats missing cause of file and folderpermission settings on the server that prevent them from getting added correctly
To solve it, you have to manually follow the install steps, upload the files from the TP package manually, make the edits to the SMF files according to the modinstruction we have in the doc section of this site. and then last add the database tables manually from the browser ( yoursiteurl/manual_tp_install.php )
Simply put, you need to make sure the files, folders, and code are added correctly, if they are not, you have to manually install TP
I used SMF Admin functions to remove a Board. This is standard procedure.
Anyone administering a forum should be able to remove a board without it affecting the program's functions or having to do any followup in a module like TP .
I have modified NO code that has anything to do with TP functions, only display properties and CSS variables (in the index template).
