Hi, sorry I looked around for a simple "first time install guide" and the read me points to http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?board=85.0 which is nothing.

Can someone please tell me how to do a first time install of TP onto a SMF board?

take the smf part out of your link and that will lead you to the Docs board here. Have a look in there as there is an install guide.
