Title: SMF 1.1.4 with some mods - Checklist prior to tp install
Post by: skip_mff on March 04, 2008, 05:07:36 PM
Hi,

I'm running 1.1.4 with Dilbermc theme, and the following mods:
Google Video BBC tag
Ad Management 2.3
Youtube BBcode
SMF Gallery Lite.

As with others I fail on default\index.template.php as this has some non standard lines in it in order to get some of the above showing in Dilber.

I've read about a manual install but I was curious to see how things would progress so I decided to create a test forum.

Setup 1.1.4, added std dilbermc, and the above mods. Made sure language was english, set forum to default, deleted dilbermc.

Took my current index.template.php from the default and replaced the one in my test set up \default

Hit Install mod even though there was the error and everything seemed to install fine.

Then uploaded TP dilbermc theme and everything seems fine. I obviously dont have my custom button (gallery) anymore but that should be simple to add.

Gallery is still running fine and no critical errors reported.

I tried to add a windfinder javascript in the current theme HTML code to be displayed below user info bar (which works with non tp dilbermc) but when I hit save it takes me to my site root!

Based on the above simulation, was wondering if I should go ahead and try a tp install on my live site, or should I still stick with a manual install. I'm just downloading a complete copy of the forum and relevant db.

Thanks.

We strongly suggest you uninstall all mods, then install TP and reinstall your mods after successfully installing TP.

Or, Continue with the install regardless of the Failure and manually edit the files as per the instructions the the Manual Installation Guide.

Thanks for your quick answer. I have prepared the manual edit files in advance so I could definately add those afterwards. If I do the auto install and then upload the manually edited files, would I still need to run the db file or would that have already been merged.

Thanks

You should just be able to make the manual edits to the files needed. The database will have been updated.

As always, make a complete backup first.

Read ZTN's posts in this topic. That will answer your question.

That doesnt really help me in afraid. I have tried to uninstall mods but i encounter a problem with each one so if there is a way to sort out the file that failed upon installation that would be great. That hasnt been mentioned in the above post.

There's no way to sort it out. If you can't install with the package manager then you'll need to do the manual install, which requires you to make the edits yourself. Instructions for all of this is in the Docs board.

For future reference, please don't hijack another topic with your unrelated issue. It really makes it difficult to find things when searching and only makes the topic hard to understand when people find it. If you need to, start your own topic and reference any topic that you think is relevant. Thanks!

Just to update, installation went smoothly and I did not encounter any issues. Even though I had a fail with auto install on index.template the install appeared to go smoothly. However as advised by ZTN and as I'd already prepared the manual edit files, I still manually uploaded these files to the relevant area just to be safe.

I can't say I noticed any difference between the auto install and once I'd uploaded the manuals files, which could either be a good sign or that there weren't any major issues with the auto install, though everybody's set up is likely to be slightly different.

I found creating a test forum a very useful debug exercise prior to doing it on the live forum, in that I replicated all my mods, put the modified files from my live forum on the test forum and then tried the auto install without apparent issues. The only thing I didnt have was the live database.
