Title: Bad install?
Post by: mykal on January 28, 2008, 09:32:34 PM
I am trying out a free host.  It is http://www.websitesnetwork.com.

I used Fantastico to install SMF v1.1.3 then I used the package manager via SMF to upgrade to v1.1.4 SMF.  I then uploaded the TPzip     V0.983 and installed it.

It showed no errors and installed fine.

My website shows NO sign of it however.  Under the Admin CP it shows TP as being installed.

I tried switching my default language to English.  That didnt work.

No mods installed
Default theme in SMF

My site: http://dirtyrigs.wsnw.net

Any ideas on what to do?  I have been searching and reading alot in the past hour or so and have tried just about everything I have read except the manual install.  If all else fails I will try that tommorow.

TIA

Have you read the FAQ and the Posting guidelines at the top of the support board?

I read the FAQ.  It doesnt have a section for what I am asking.  I read the sectiopn on it not showing in the Admin CP and changing the text to English.  I tried that as my post stated.

I read the posting guidelines as well.  I did what they said.  I posted the versions, the links, mods and what errors there were.

Did I miss something or is it just not in the format that you want it?

If you have access to your files and folders through FTP or Cpanel ? If so, make sure all the files and folders got added correctly, also that the code changes in the SMF files got added as they should.
Check our docsection and modinstructions and compare your files and codestrings in the files the instructions show

I have access through both but I have been using FTP.

Ill go read up some more to see if I can check what you said.

Thank You.

You didn't indicate that you had read those suggestions so I was just asking. One thing that doesn't seem clear is whether you are not seeing the text, or if you don't even have a TP block in your admin at all. If it is the latter, then a manual install is in order.

IchBin,
Gotcha :)

I do not see any text at all.  No admin block for it either.  I see no signs at all other then it says it is installed under the installed packages.

G6
The first check on index.php and the code was not entered.

I will do a manual install tommorow to see if it will work.

Do I need to uninstall TP before doing this?

Thanks for the help!

No need to uninstall. If you manually go through and add the code you should be able to just leave it as is.

Well that didnt work.

I did everything verbatim.  Double checked it.

I get this error.
Quote
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/dradmin/public_html/Sources/Subs.php on line 3139

Im going to uninstall SMF and start over.  Ill give this one more shot.  ;D

http://dirtyrigs.wsnw.net/

Could someone look and tell me if this is right?

I manually installed it.  Are there supposed to be three columns on the main page by default or do I have to turn them on?  I have not changed anything.  I looked through the admin panel and I think they are supposed to be on.

I dont have them.

You didn't make the proper changes to the files. You have an error on your help page, as well that you didn't make the proper changes to your default core index.template.php file.

Its not showing because you haven't made any edits to the file. I don't see any of your TinyPortal code that you're supposed to put in there.

WTH?

Alright let me edit it once more and try that.

Sorry about that.  Im sure I put them in.  Maybe I doped something up.

Will report back in a few mins.

Im starting to think you have folder and file owner issues, if the edits doesent save when you save and upload, it's because you dont have the permissions to do so.
If thats the case, you have to contact the host and ask them to make you the owner of all the files and folders so you can edit them as you want.

Alright edited.  It was strange, only some of the code was in there.  Im not sure what happened.

Now the problem is I have double Left side boxes.  Take a look. http://dirtyrigs.wsnw.net

Im sorry for wasting your time with that.  Thanks for all your patience and help!

This is getting tiresome, really....

We have given you every detail you need to know. But you dont seem to follow up on anything we say.
3 pages of the same things we have posted so many times allready and also have in the docs.

Replace all the SMF files with new ones, and then make the edits to the files manually all over again. This time, take you time and make sure you do it correctly.

G6,

Thank you for your post.  I did follow up on everything except for your last post about the server settings.  (which I am actually in the process of creating a help ticket)  I did everything that was thrown out there.

Thanks for your time and your patience.  I will try once more and if I can not get it I will move onto another design.

I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused you.  Again, thank you for all of the help.

Looks like you got it mykal ? Looking at your site everything seems to be in order. Good job! The instructions are not hard to follow, but they are very detailed and must be done exact. Keep up the great work!

I thought everything was working.  Then I tried to install a theme.  It installs with no errors but doesnt show up.

I am using one for TP like I read.

I will read more before I post a new thread though.

Thanks for all the help.

There are multiple types of themes. Some have two versions, one for SMF and a separate one from SMF+TP. The newer type themes have the TP code built in. You just have to check a box in the theme settings in your admin panel to turn it on. This type of theme works for both SMF and SMF+TP.

Don't forget that articles can have a theme set to override the forum default theme. Hence the reason why our forum shows a different theme than your frontpage. Edit the article options to take off the theme over-ride if you need.
