Title: No errors, nothing happens - installing TP
Post by: cralor on January 03, 2008, 11:24:33 PM
Ok, I've read some others, and I don't want to reply on someone else's thread, so I'm making a new one.

Site URL: shadowui.co.cc (http://shadowui.co.cc)

I am using SMF 1.1.4, TP 0.9.8, and the Aa_New_Damage SMF theme.

I VERY MUCH don't want to use another texture. It is a very important thing. :P
(If that's the problem).

I'm only using the TP mod and I already got safe mode off. I try installing, get to the FTP Information section, type in all the info, and it sends me back to the FTP Info page with no errors, no nothing.

FTP Info page replica: did i type this right??
1. My URL for FORUMS is cralor.free-web-hosting.biz/forum (http://cralor.free-web-hosting.biz/forum)
2. Port: I use port 21 on my SmartFTP, so that stays the same.
3. Username: cralor
4. Password: ...its the password :P
5. Local path to SMF: /forum

Please tell me if this is the right info, and if not, what I need to change.

Thanks.

You could try reading the docs here http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=6771 and always use the default core theme to install any mods

You mean I could change to default, install, and then change back and be fine?

Not quite.
When you install mods ( especially TP ) you need to do so with the forum set to use the Default SMF Core theme.
WHEN then TP is installed properly, you will need to change your themes (reinstall) to TP converted themes as tp needs to have code in every theme you use

YES! I found a TP ready version of the same theme (Aa_New_Damage) here.

I'll download that and then try it out. :)

Ok. Still having issues. Downloaded a TP converted texture and I still can't get it to work.

I'll try a different texture template.

Instead of TRYING to get things to work, why not just take the time reading what we tell you ;)

Install TP to your DEFAULT SMF CORE THEME, when it is working there as it suppose to, THEN it's time for you toinstall other TP ENABLED themes on your site.
If you dont have TP working in your default SMF Core theme, then it will not work in any other theme eather...

Changed to "SMF Default Theme". Click "Apply Mod". Shows FTP Info page. Enter info, click proceed. Does nothing. Brings me back the the FTP Info page like nothing happened. No errors no nothing.

I'm going to try ANOTHER fresh download of TP and see how it works.

EDIT:
1. Downloaded fresh copy.
2. SAVED to Desktop (still .zip format on my desktop).
3. Went back to site, DELETED the TP I had downloaded, but not installed. (The one I had BEFORE the fresh copy I just downloaded.)
4. Uploaded the fresh copy using the "Upload a Package" feature in the Download Packages tab.
5. Uploads successfully. Click on "Apply Mod"
6. Brings me to FTP Info page. Type in everything. (Like on first post.)
7. Brings me back to same page with no errors, no sign of TP, no nothing. (FTP Info)

I don't know what's wrong.. =/ ??

on local path to forum you should write the whole path to forum when you log on with that ftp username like ;

httpdocs/forum  (if you are using plesk)

Nope that is not what I say.

When you log on to your site with your ftp account, can you directly go to your forum folder  ?

Yes. I log on using port: 21, username: cralor, same password, and url: cralor.free-web-hosting.biz

i use SmartFTP. i can just type : /forum in the directory slot because it already knows my url of cralor.free-web-hosting.biz, so typing /forum would get me to cralor.free-web-hosting.biz/forum :)

i can access every folder just fine.

no. it does exactly like any other. instead, the admin has 1 ad on each site made. he makes enough from the ads to host the servers and a little for himself.

like any other web hoster.

i'm going to go more in-depth on how manual installing works. i'll see what i can do.

You may need to do a Manual Installation. It happens.. and since you are using free hosting.. more likely.

You can find Manual Installation instructions in the Docs section.

Did Manual Installation in these steps:

1. Took TP folder, upload all contents to Forum DIR (adds files to Sources folder, etc.)
2. Changed the coding with the mod change guide.
3. CHMOD every folder.
4. Went to browser typed: cralor.free-web-hosting.biz/forum/tp_install.php
5. Says installed correctly. Delete it.
6. Go to Forum page again, nothing happened.

Through the process I tried going to my site and each time, and still, it shows this:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ')' in /www/free-web-hosting.biz/c/r/a/cralor/htdocs/forum/Sources/Load.php on line 663

I'm thinking I'm going to just have to give an Admin my info and have them do it.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and obviously I've tried everything.

I really wanted this mod...

Any help like that available?

Thanks!

You probably made a small error when you added the code manually to the Load.php file in the sources directory.
Go back and check and recheck so the code is added the way the documentation show you.

It's part of the code that wasn't replaced with new code in the guide.

The error code said unneeded ')'. I AutoIt3'ed the line of code where it said the error and it showed that indeed one parentheses was not needed, so I deleted it. Saved a uploaded back up to site.

Still have same error. Another weird thing, my forum copy gives the same error.
I never touched my forum copy. I just copied the Forum DIR before I started fiddling with the Manual Install so I'd have something to go back to. But I shouldn't have the same error if I didn't touch anything.

This is way too complicated. What should I do??

EDIT: Do you have MSN or AIM? So this process can go faster? If not, it's totally fine. If so, that'd be great.  ;D

I dont give support through eather chat software, we keep it in the forum so others can benefit from the answers given.

Go though every bit of code we show in the doc section ( modinstruction) and make sure all the code is added as it shows there.

ok my friend got it to work and he shared his file with me.

had some trouble got it to work, then had a template issue, but i searched on the forums and Bloc had a resolution. (this might need to be fixed? the post was in sept 2005). now i got my site to work, but i know i'm missing one Source file for the default template.

URL: shadowui.co.cc

Anyone know which one it is? Or how I can cross each one out and find the one I'm missing?

Thanks!

I dont think any of us here have a crystal ball we can use to really know what file as you dont even post the errors or what you did and what you removed.
This is the last time we will ask you to follow our posting guides, we have them so we dont have to question YOU for info you should allready have given us.

What theme, what error, what have you done up until now, why do you think your missing a source file, any error messages in the log ? What did your friend help you with ? What file did you replace, what issue did blocs post help you solve ? Links ? what have you searched for ?

Sorry I should have known better.

Theme: Default
Error: N/A just know it looks wrong
What I have done: Manually Installed TP with the help of my friend. Just got it installed.
Why I'm missing it: I don't know. Could've missed it or something. I've checked. Don't see anything missing anywhere.
My friend help me: Install TP Manually.
The file I replaced: index.template.php
The issue Bloc helped me solve: Template Parse Error - unexpected T_ELSE, just downloaded Blocs corrected version and uploaded it - then installed. Worked fine.
Searched for: Template Parse Error
Link: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=690.0

Hope this helps you understand a bit more. I don't think it will cause any major issues, as I won't be really using it. And it doesn't effect how it runs.

Thanks.

P.S: The image that says "TP Admin" above your avatar. What is that called? And how can I get those on my site?

Looks wrong ?  You did install TP to your Forums Default SMF Core theme ? (thats the only dir you install TP to ) the rest of the themes have to be replaced with themes that are made to work with TP.

A link to your site would have given us most if not all answers directly. ;)

The image over the avatar is called badges (named the very same as the stars thats there as default) just changed to only show one image instead of 5 in the memebrsgroup settings.

Make your own images and replace the stars (right click on the stars and check the name and image paths)

Sorry. I'm giving you a hard time with this. :( Anyway, here is my site: ShadowUI.co.cc
(http://shadowui.co.cc)

I installed TP using the Default Theme, and I know that some of the Sources files control the layout of the site, and I can tell in my Default Theme that something is missing, it isn't much of a big deal, since I won't be using it, and I think Babylon looks better.

I've installed Crip's converted Aa_New_Damage theme and have got it to work perfectly fine.

I have TP all set up and now I just have to configure it to my liking.

Thanks for all your help and understanding.
