I installed SMF 1.1.4 brand new install. Then imported SQL file of all forum data saved from another forum. The import worked just fine, all the data was present. The forum now showed the theme used on the old forum (Alak). I reset the forum to the default theme. Then uploaded the newest TP and installed it. And now, the only thing I can see on the domain is a blank page with [an error occurred while processing this directive] in the upper left corner.
Do I have to uninstall the whole forum and do this all over again, with the original forum set on the default theme prior to exporting the data? Or is there an easier fix?
Well if you uploaded TP and the install botched your SMF install, then just restore your SMF file to before the TP install.
How would I do that? I can't get to any page on the forum.
Don't you have a backup of your files?
I don't know what you're asking me. I have two forums on the same server (two different domains). I wanted to transfer forum #1 to another domain, with all the same stuff (except not necessarily the added theme). So I installed a fresh install of SMF 1.1.4 on the new domain, then applied TP. All worked well, but when I imported the data from forum #1 to forum #2, it prefaced all the tables in the database with "smf" and therefore the data was not visible in the new forum. I tried deleting all the non-smf-prefaced tables and that did no good. I then deleted all the SMF files and TP files off the server and started fresh. This time I called the new database "smf", and waited until after importing the data from forum #1 before applying TP. Everything worked fine. I changed forum #2 to the default theme before applying TP. Now I can't get to any page of the forum, all I see is [an error occurred while processing this directive] on every page. Nothing else.
Well, this really is an SMF question but, I'm not asking you to do anything. All I'm telling you is that if you had it running fine at one point, and now its not because you restored something that didn't work, then you should restore it back to the point where it worked and go from there.
It appears I have to delete everything and start over from scratch a third time. I'd like to get it right this time. Do I have to set the old forum on the default theme prior to exporting the data for this TP application to work?
Update:
I deleted the whole forum meaning I removed all the files from the server and deleted the database then recreated the database, re-uploaded all the forum files, reset the theme on the original forum to the default, then exported all the data from the original forum, then reinstalled SMF, then imported all the data from the original forum, then applied TP. I got the exact same result as before. So, I went through the same procedure (deleting, reinstalling, etc.) one more time. Everything is fine but I'm afraid to reapply TP. Can you blame me?
I want to have TP on the site, but I cannot find a way to make it happen without some help.
BTW this forum is not sending me notifications of replies to this thread, although I am subscribed and my email address works.
When you apply TP, are you installing TP fresh in the package manager? Or are you importing the tables? Is everything named as it should be with the prefix and all?
Yes, I mean that I am installing TP fresh from the package manager, and it always says the installation was successful, and that I should restart the forum, and then when I do, the entire forum is gone, replaced by the blank page with the "error occurred while processing this directive" text message.
Note, the original forum never had TP applied to it.
Then your server is probably running on safe mode.4
The only way for you to install TP now is to manually add it with manuall uploading of the files from the manuall install package, also manually addning the TP code to the SMF files through FTP and a codeedit software.
The package manager dont work on all servers, and when they dont, the manuall way is the ONLY way to install tinyportal to your forum.
In our doc section you find the manuall install goiude, make sure you do ALL steps
