I tried to install tp through the package upload but it gave me a parse error modification
I then tried a manual install and changed all what needed changing but it just gave me a blank page after i done everything i tried refreshing the page and changing the chmods but this didnt work
In the end i had to reinstall my smf forum
so can any one help me install tp

Usually installing through the package manager should work gemmk1, but there are some things that you need to check... like file permissions for one.
Take a look in the Docs section and you'll find all the directions on how to do an install including a manual install if you end up needing to do it that way.

It's a fairly easy process, just read carefully and you'll be OK.
I followed all the instructions for the manual install i got just a blank white page and when i install through the package i get this error come up it goes through the uploading okay and tests come back all okay as soon as i press install it say this

I dont know whats happend i have changed the chmods in my package files and now im getting thids error
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable! but i have made all files writable

You may have an Ownership of files problem, check the CHMOD, then check it again, if it has changed back, then you may need to contact your host, there is also a know issue regarding the Temp folder, and there is a workaround for it at SMF.
Have you tried any other packages?
yes i tried the install patch update and it gives me the same error as it does for tiny portal
I will go and set up a temp admin for you on my forum and pm you my ftp details thankyou
Before you do that, I'll find a few links first.. If you are having Package Manager problems, that really is an SMF support question.

That may help
In your Packages folder, create a folder called temp and set the permissions to 777
Then in your packages folder, delete the TP packe from there.
When you have done these 2 steps, open your Admin package manager, and fill in the ftp account there, check the box for change permissions to ALL files.
When you have reached this far, browse to the TP package again, and let the manager install it for you.
I have managed to install it okay but it is not showing up ztn is having a look at the moment for me thankyou g6 and allso thankyou ztn for all the help

Ztn had a look and installed Sticky First Post which works but tiny portal still does not work

The package was installed successfully. You should now be able to use whatever functionality it adds or changes; or not be able to use functionality it removes.
But it still does not show up
I have been in conaTact with my host and they said everything is running okay and there is nothing wrong with chmods as ztn thought this may be the promblem

If its not working for you, it boils down to a server cofiguration issue. You'll need to do the manual install. Instructions are posted in the Docs board.

I have had different types of boards which have needed chmodding and i have never had these promblems before
If you can't get it to work with the package manager the manual install is the only way. Without knowing what you have done on the manual install there's no much I can do about your problem. So, care to share any details?

TinyPortal isn't usually this hard to install, as I suggested and IchBin.. it really does seem seem to be a server configuration problem.
Installing the package 'Extend Sticky Topics' worked well enough with the package manager and if you've had no problems with this host before, then you really need to either contact them again... or hit it with a hammer.. the latter should do the trick.
I can't remember now if you have done a manual install... If you haven't, then you will probably have to.
