ray, you mean a windows support forum, not relating to tp or smf? i could use some help in that area ;)

every time i boot, i get 3 new hardware wizard windows. if i go on, it calls them unknown device, unknown device, and media controller. they are all in the device manager with code1 or code10 errors as having no driver. computer cnanot determine what kinds of devices they are either. my computer works fine, aside from these devices. the lack of driver causes my windows to bluescreen when i'm gaming. :(

the windows support forum does sound like a good idea, but not sure if it quite fits the topic of the site overall.

however, it could be beneficial in encouraging members to stay active on the site.

your problem is you do not have the right drivers that work with that version of windows. And yes you can get a blue screen from that- remove the cards you have untill the device is not their and that will tell you what drivers you need for what device, looks like you need update driver for the sound card even if it is working not having some of  the parts of it working is not a good thing --

And I mean more of peeps trying to install smf or tp on windows base systems -- even help with mysql is needed to get the forums working, most post here are on linux and I kinda stay away from helping them -- question like did you do a 777 on the folder. Heck no I use windows  ;D So if I know they are on a windows computer I can help them.

And thanks for asking Moocat

good point, i didn't notice alot of people were using windows servers.

you think all those unknown devices could be my sound card? it works perfectly. i hope it's not my gfx card, as my mobo has no onboard gfx controller. so you suggest i update my sound card drivers? oddly enough, i tried that fairly recently, and still have problems. i'm using the same version of windows i used before i got my new hd, mobo, proc, and gfx card. back then i was still using this creative sb audigy 2, and having no problems.

Try removing your sound card from the system and reboot with out it and see if the bad drivers are still their. If they are then it is not the sound card and try another device like the modem. Are you using a force card (gforce) if so try this driver

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

oh yea what version of windows you using??

If they are not things you are using then I would just disable them in the device manager. IMO, if you have those things trying to install at boot, they are probably onboard devices that don't have the drivers installed. Things like Raid, USB, Controllers.

good suggestion ray lol
my windows boots in 10 sec, since i installed new mobo, ram, proc and vga card. :D

anyway, the problem is if i uninstall the unknown devices in the device mgr, the hardware wizard still comes up and re-enables them when i boot. also, i still experience bluescreens with the devices uninstalled. i'll try removing the sound card, and i don't have an nvidea card. i have a sapphire ATI radeon x800 pro.

i think the problem may be the usb and firewire expansion things i added. they are not pci, but they fit in the back slot, and plug into the motherboard usb connector. those are the only two things i don't use, so logically they must be the problem. how would i go about getting drivers for these two annoying little sobs?
Title: Re: windows forum

go to the manufacture of the card -- If it is a Isa card sheshh don't use it get a new pci card-- also if you are not using those cards take them out, why load more into memory if you are not going to use them? I hope any of this helps??

Take them out and see if that is your problem first! Did they come with the mother board or did you buy them later? If with the mother board you should have the driver on a CD if you got them later you should have the drivers sitting in the box you have stored in the top part of the closet ;D

haha. the things came with the mobo. i do intend on using them eventually, so i don't really want to go thru the hassle of removing them (they are hard as hell to get in with my ginormous sound card in the way. thanks for the help and i'll let you know what happens. if the driver isn't on the mobo cd, i'll try removing them.

well one of the problems was the onboard audio thing, i installed the drivers from the cd. now... when i click the usb 2.0 drivers, it says my version of windows (xp pro sp1 or above) has the software already. there were no sort of drivers for the firewire. i will try progressively unplugging each device to determine the culprit.

Make sure you have installed sp2 -- it has a lot of drivers built in

yes, i have got sp2. unfortunately, still no drivers :(

if anyone read my recent two posts, and are wondering where they went, i deleted them because i solved the problem. apparently sapphire did not provide the wdm driver on the CD! very odd, and also rude. bastards. i got it fixed now!

still having wierdness with my graphics card not giving a display in the primary pci-e slot, and also seeing two processors in the device mgr. lol :)

my computer is now stable though, which makes me happy ;D

ew don't do that.

i thought my pc was stable but it is not. :( i got another bluescreen after 30 minutes of cs source. the unknown devices are gone, but some driver is causing this problem over and over.

I had a similar problem when I put in a 6800GT and didn't have enough power in my power supply. RAM can also be the culprit. You may want to try and run MEMtest86. You can download that program and burn it to a disk. Then just boot your computer from the disk and it will automatically run a memory test.

Is their any info in the Event Viewer??

if i leave the comp on for a while, it reports a STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER error from that bluescreen. the event viewer gives this:

system error
Error code 100000d1, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 00000007, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 f72bc817.

there was no entry in the event viewer for the time of the crash, however.

on reboot from the crash, i've gotten these

Service Control manager
The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

i should have plenty of wattage, my psu is 550W. i'll run memtest.

Look here

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q293078

or

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_agho.asp

ALl is pointing to the grafic card drivers or the card itself -- might try installing some older drivers - sometimes that works

that was going to be my next try. i did memtest, 6 passes, 0 errors. so my memory is doing great. i'll try updating to the newest drivers, then rolling back to the next earliest release.

i was playing counterstrike source again today, and did not get a chance to see the stop error, but it acted just like i got the same error again:

0x000000EA, THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

and this was in the event viewer

system error
Error code 100000d1, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 00000007, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 f72bc817.

you knnow it sure seems like a overheat problem -- i remimber having the voodoo3d card and having to add fans to keep them cool. ??
Title: Re: windows forum
Post by: Moocat on January 12, 2006, 03:03:11 PM
can't be overheating. i've checked my bios right after the crash, and hardware monitor reports temps on mobo and cpu both at around 40, fairly low.

Assuming you have an optical mouse? I've had that happen on a couple of mine before. I ended up just replacing the damn thing. I did learn that it pays to spend the money on a mouse if you want it to last. :) Spent 50$ on an Mx510 logitech and its been the best mouse I've ever used.
