Title: Content decoding has failed @ d/l
Post by: Pirat3 on November 16, 2007, 02:06:21 AM
SMF Version: SMF 1.1.4
Ok for somereason people are having a issue downloading my files from IE7 such as this one:
http://www.ps3hax.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat66

They SOMETIMES get this error:

"Internet Explorer cannot download ps3hax_Vista.rar from www.ps3hax.net
Content decoding has failed"

Not all the time sometimes, I dont know why either, just seems to be happening to only RAR files but havnt had any reports of other formats.

Any idea why?

It appears to be an IE error from what little info I can find. I can only suggest to try another browser at this time.

I never said it was you. I said it appears to be an error with IE7 from what little info I can find on that error. I can only suggest that you use another browser to download in the mean time.

Yeah info seems very scarce, does tp w/ ie7 have this problem in general?

Well, considering IE7 has been out for quite some time, and this is the first I've seen the error (but it doesn't happen to me), I'd say No it doesn't have this problem.

A client of mine with an SMF forum with TinyPortal is now getting this exact same issue but only with IE7.  I've scoured the internet trying to find answers and the only places where people are posting about the same issue are on forums using SMF.  Some of them use TinyPortal, some don't, so I don't really know if it's purely TinyPortals problem or not.

The OP of this thread posted the same issue on the SMF forum which didn't lead anywhere (except here... they blamed the issue on you) so now I'm coming back here.  Any further comments on this?  Anyone?  Thanks.

As said several times now, it's not a TP issue, it's an issue with IE7, so it's for microsoft to fix that issue with the browser.

And it's not only smf forums that have this issue, download.com have the same, filestorage have the same etc etc.

I understand that it's not just a TP issue, but I was just curious if anyone figured out WHY IE7 does this now and if there's any setting or configuration or something that could be done with IE or Windows to help solve this?  Thanks.
