Title: Can't enable Maintenance Mode
Post by: Paranoimia on October 07, 2007, 03:22:43 PM
I've just tried putting my forums into Maintenance Mode for the first time since I did so to install SMF 1.1.4, and all I get is this error:

QuoteForbidden
You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have not changed any file permissions at all.

Similarly, I seem to be having intermittent problems when trying to modify posts; sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't, with the same error being generated.

Any advice?

EDIT: In fact, I'm getting this error every time I try to change something in the admin settings, and hit a 'Save' button. I think I may need to get on to my host.

Sorry Paranoimia, this is a SMF support question, you need to ask at SMF.

settings.php and settings_bak.php need to have the permissions set to 777 through FTP or Cpanlel in order to be changed in any way.
This goes for maintenance mode aswell

Yup, they are. The problem seems to be permission for the index.php file, though. Thanks anyway! I'll ask at the SMF forums.
