Title: Test Files fail on Installation
Post by: Rafferty on October 01, 2007, 02:24:06 AM
I was really looking forward to installing TP but didn't get too far. On "apply mod" I received:

1.     Extract Tree     ./Themes
2.    Extract Tree    ./Sources
3.    Extract Tree    ./tp-downloads
4.    Extract Tree    ./tp-images
5.    Extract Tree    ./FCKeditor
6.    Extract Tree    ./wysiwyg
7.    Execute Code    tp_install.php
8.    Execute Modification    ./index.php    Test failed
9.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Load.php    Test successful
10.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/index.template.php    Test failed
11.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/babylon/index.template.php    Test successful
12.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Subs.php    Test successful
13.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/ManagePermissions.php    Test failed
14.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Security.php    Test successful
15.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Errors.php    Test successful
16.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/style.css    Test successful
17.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/Help.template.php    Test successful
18.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Profile.php    Test successful
19.    Execute Modification    ./SSI.php    Test successful

I'm on smf 1.1.4, default theme

Any ideas?

Rafferty

It means that TP is looking for code that another mod you installed has modified. It also means, you don't want to uninstall your other mods to install TP you'll have to manually install TP. Instructions are in the Docs board.

Seems much too complicated I'm afraid, I'll screw it up but thanks anyway I'll guess I'll give up

That easy ?  Giving up ?  Whats that, go for it, im sure you will make it, and frankly it isent all that hard.
Copy and past code in the files our docsection describe.
If you do it correctly to the default theme, you dont have to be worried about not finding any code cause it's pretty easy to see where to add what code.
First time it is scary, but after you have made it, i will promisse you that you will keep on wonder why you waited to try it atleat :)

OK, thanks for your prompt.

1. I uploaded all files to my forum (smf) directory keeping the file structure
2. Ran the tp_install file. Didnt seem to be a problem but just checking I was led to the following screen:

Install / Upgrade TinyPortal v0.9.8 beta

    * Upshrink table created
    * Settings table created
    * Settings table updated
          o Added 98 new setting(s)
    * Blocks table created.
          o some sample values were added to the blocks table
    * Variables table created.
          o some sample values were added to the variables table
    * Articles table created.
          o some sample values were added to the articles table
    * DL manager table created
    * Shoutbox table created

TinyPortal´s table structure is now installed/updated.
Please restart your forum to see the changes.

Thank you for trying out TinyPortal.

Which theme are you using? Change it to the default and check again.
Also do a hard refresh: CTRL F5

it is the default theme 1.1.4

Wait a minute: I uploaded the tp files in their own folder /forum/tp/. is that right or should i have uploaded all files and directories directly into /forum/

I did look at that but there are identical folders in forum folder ie: sources & themes which tp upload would over write ??

The existing folders contains other mods and would be destroyed

The files need to be in the same folder, some go into Sources, and some into /themes/default.
The manual install should tell you which files go where. You've made the edits, it should now be just a case of putting the files in the correct folders.

so i manually add the files in the tp sources & themes folders to the same folders in the forum sources/themes? just them and nothing else?

The manual install didnt say anything except take me to the screen i provided above. It went straigtht to it after running tp_install.php

Well, you should know the golden rule by now.. Backup! before you make any major changes.

Ok.. well, I would have just continued the package install, and made edits to the files that had errors.
Everything you need to know is in the documentation.. I've never had to do a manual install, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.. All I know is that many people have successfully carried out a manual install by following the documentation.

what if i try a package installation now, will that screw up anything? It should actually have the correct folders now

Nope: exactly the same errors

I know lots of guys do it successfully, but their the ones who don't need help aren't they, I do and that's the whole purpose of me being here and having this conversation.

You say you have SMF 2.0 installed ?  If so you will not be able to use tinyportal on your site as it's not made for that version of SMF at all.

And if you use SMF 1.1.4 as most of us, and you did the steps you said about the file uploading and installation of the DB, you have the 3rd and most demanding step left, you have to copy and paste all the TP code in to your SMF files.
In the doc section you have the modinstruction and what code to add and where to add it.
Just make sure you do everything with your forum set to Default SMF Core theme.

After initially being intimidated by the manual install, I've tried it G6 and worked first time. Thanks for all your help, I'm on the road.

Good job Rafferty!  :up:

After a while it all gets a little easier because as you learn more you will begin to more readily understand the process for working the files.
