Title: Formatting issue on front page
Post by: Maddog452 on September 26, 2007, 08:38:09 AM
I have kind of sorted my front page issues all except the formatting issues.

The attached image shows my problem.  I have inserted an image in the second article introduction but all I get is the BBC marking the place for the image and where the text is bold etc.  Can this be fixed easily??

That is html code.. not BBC.
You haven't closed your Image tag.

What do you mean?  It worked in the introduction in the category just not on the front page

Did you ever reply to my question about what you actually want to achieve?
I find formatting articles that way time consuming. My articles are taken from topics in the forum using SSI functions, board news. I find it quicker that way and any of my members can post news articles.

Each of mine are taken from different boards.

As for your problem.. what Article type? I'm guessing html as there are no php errors.
You really need to spend a little time researching how TinyPortal works.. there is a good docs section both here and at SMF. Are you sure you can insert html into Intro's?

What I want is to have, a front/home page that has a "Hot" article and then under that it has a list of say 5-8 other articles listed by post date. The way I have it now is really handraulic and I would like it to be automatic.

The truth is while I can drive software packages, I suck at code. I did have a friend who was going to develop this site for me but he got busy and with only about a month before I had to make this go live for my association (11 months after asking my friend to help) I was struggling - then I found TP by accident.  I will have a look about to understand how the packages each work.

I need to get a "woking" set up going by 11 Oct in a theme that is acceptable. After that, I can fix it up some.

I think I get a little confuse with the terminology. Between boards, categories, articles, posts etc.

The picture worked in the intro when I drill down using my article category menu but not when I use an Article box on the front page.

Happy to open my site up for you to have a look.

Cheers

Well, I'm certainly not doing it for you.. But I can point you in the right direction.

There are topics at SMF that discuss in depth, SSI functions. These can be used in PHP blocks or Articles.

For an example of how this can work for you and automate some of the process.. put this code in a php article.

ssi_boardNews($board = 28.0, $limit = 3, $start = null, $length = 300, $output_method = 'echo');

It's copied direct from my site, so I know it works.. all you need to do is edit the details.

Thanks Zetan.  I will have about a week off from posting anything as I've been told off by G6 for posting nebulous crap.  I have found the SSI section and will read throught it. I will just have tosort out the naming conventions of the software.

Thanks

By the way, I think G6 is probably right - I was try to hard to get everything done without actually gaining any understanding about what I was actually doing.

Update.

Zetan.

I have had a look at how your site work (how it looks like it works) and I have worked out my issue.  I am trying to use articles like I would in a CMS where I should have them in a board so that scripts actually work.  I will rework my site structure as I think this will make things look a lot better.

BTW - I like your theme.  Is it available for D/L and modification to use on my site.  I also seriously rate your content. It rocks.

Cheers
