Hey.. i know this is really noobish but can someone give me some tips on how to get TP to run properly with a SMF custom theme... the theme im using is "as new damage" and any information on how to modify the scripts would be greatly welcome..
regards
Miraris
If you search you will see that theme has already been converted to work on TP.
And TP ALWAYS installed to the DEFAULT smf Core theme, All other themes must be as ichbin said, converted to work with the new setup (smf/tp)
Hello folks. Frustrated newboob here.
I have downloaded the TP package/folder to my desktop.
I have a folder on my desktop named "TP_0983 Folder"
What do I upload and what needs to be altered? The directions are frustrating as they say upload. Upload what? To where?
Do I create a new folder on my server and upload into that? If I upload the files in the TP folder to my smf folder won't they overwrite them?
a real basic WTF101 would be greatly appreciated
thanks ahead of time
I forgot to add a few things...Sorry.
I have SMF 1.1.4 up and running. No problemo.
I wanted to use the shout box mod and I read somewhere that I needed to have TP installed for the shout box to be what I want...a tiny box on the side
TinyPortal is a mod. Thus it is installed like a mod in the SMF admin panel. For more information on that read the docs at the simplemachines.org site. There's also a short tutorial in the docs section of this site.
As for the shoutbox, yes if you want it in a small box you'll need to use TP's shoutbox and not the shoutbox mod from SMF.
Read the docs at smf..thanks.
TP's shout box. Where is a link to that one?
Its part of the TinyPortal install. Included in it. :)

Thank you. I see I will be busy. Does the search ever end?

For your questions posted here yes, as soon as you have installd TP mod through your package manager like any other mod.
Then I feel we are going to get a whole lot of other questions from you hahaha.
Just make sure you install TP through the package manager to your DEFAULT SMF CORE theme with the forum set to use English language.
The blocks and shoutbox will show directly on your frontpage after you have installed TP. It's nothing you need to add or find or manually edit in, it's there from start.
I have smf version 1.1.2. and recently installed Tiny portal 0.9.8. I was using the "Amber" template and wondered why I could not get left and right blocks to work on the front page
Then I tried with the Default Theme - Core, and the blocks appeared. I gather my other themes need a conversion if I want to use them from what I read here, is that right?
Are the TP themes ready converted and the SMF ones I have no good then or am I missing something?
thanks Kevski
When TP is installed you must use themes that are written for SMF/TP, make sure that you download the correct one... it will have tp in the file name.
