Hi
Nx here from Manila Philippines.
Im really not a master or expert in php, html or other scripts. Actually I have very litle knowlwdge compared to most of you guys. We have a small forum and we use SMF 1.1.3
My question is - Is Tinyportal user friendly for forum admin like me who has little or no-knowledge at all with regards to scripting. Or is it for cyber tech peeps like most of the guys in here.
What are the basic things I need to know with regards TP. Im very interested and would love to use it. But I dont know where to start. I read the FAQ in here and I was hoping for a more simplier info.
Thank you all in advance.
BTW,
here is our site.

Thanks for your interest NX.
TinyPortal is a very powerful and easy to use tool that will improve the look and function of your forum way beyond what is available in the 'stock' configuration.
And it is 'user friendly' but just as with SMF there is a learning curve to go through as you bring it to the full potential... it can give many, many options for running your forum.
The basics are this, it is very easy to get started with TinyPortal so give it a try and see what you think.
Hi NX! From Manila, too! :)
Tinyportal rocks! I love it!
Best thing you can do is setup a test site and see what you are capable of. A test site would require you to setup SMF in another folder and then install TinyPortal.
You will also find that most of the things you do with TP require no real coding knowledge. Most everything you will do can be done from the admin panel in the tp settings. The library of code snippets make adding custom blocks just a matter of copying and pasting code in a block you can create. Like the others said its just a matter jumping in and getting you feet wet. I like to think that the support you can get here is out done by none. We are always glad to help and hope you enjoy your stay here.
thanks everyone.. I already DL the package.
I'm eager to instal it but Im afraid if I encounter any problem, our forum could get messed up and I would not be able to bring it back.
I know backing up would be the answer, but will it really restore the previous forum? Just in case thing get messed up?
Yes back up first. Also remeber as with all mod you install be sure you are in the smf core default theme before installing. If you get any errors do not procede with the install. In the case of errors just post back and we can help you with what to do next. But please we do ask our users to use the search before making any post for help. I do think you will find that any error you encounter has been answered before. Good luck with the installation . Tick.
thanks sir tick...
Welcome
I wanted to add edit our main log on page. What should I do? and do I need? We are currently using smf 1.1.3 and the Soft Dark theme. I wanted to add some stuff like, disclaimer and other info about our forum.. Im not familiar with scripts, php, sql, etc.. Will TP solve this?

Thank in advance.
TP doesent SOLVE what you want, you still have to add the content you want to show by your self.
TP will however help you with the placement of the things you want to show.
The logo will have to be added as in any other theme by making the edits in the index.template.php file for the theme.
Disclamier and the other things can be placed in articles or blocks at the sides or center with PHP or HTML code
thanks sir..
Got any " Setting up TP guide for dummies?"
Really not sure where to start..
Although I already downloaded TP_0983.zip
What should be my next step? And will the softdark theme work fine with TP? or do I need to change my theme?
TIA
At this point i suggest you start reading in the doc section we have, there you willl have a lot of info that will give you the answers you need.
Also when you have TP installed ( Make sure you only have the SMF Default Core theme as your default theme set during the install of TP) you can read in the block code and snippets board we have to gett feed back on what you can have and add in to TP when you have it installed.
For the themes, you will need to make sure you use ONLY TP enabled themes as the SMF only will not work..
Thanks for your time sir..
I'll continue reading your FAQs..
Although, honestly.. Im quite confused and lost at this moment as where to start..
More power to TP.

Humm, maybe a braile keyboard and a talking computer!
Being enough of a newbie to know less than our blind friend NX, having played around a bit with my new T/P and SMF and made more of a mess than doing good, I have to think the suggestion to make a test site to play around with is one of the best suggestions I have heard.
I believe it said to install SMF then TP. I thought I had read a long time ago someplace that it was harder to add a portal to an existing Forum (the conversation was actually about mk portal) To keep it simple, my question is. Do SMF first or TP first?
SMF must come first because TinyPortal is actually a mod that is added to SMF, TP will not work without SMF.
Thanks Ken, I am on vacation for a few more days and will give that a shot as soon as I get home.
Thanks for the replies Ma'm/ Sirs.
More power to TP users and developers.

Can I set up a test forum using my current domain?
Here's the current directory of our forum >> mysite/public_ftp/forum
Can I add a folder >> mysite/public_ftp/
test site/forum
and install another smf on the that test site folder?
wouldnt that create some problems or errors in our current forum?
Yes, you can and it's very much advised you do have a test site if you have space.
I have one here:
