Ok, just registered a domain for a friend, and am installing SMF/TP. Here's what I did after creating all the site stuff.
1) Uploaded and installed SMF 1.1.3
2) Uploaded TP 0.9.8 via package manager and installed
3) Uploaded and installed AlienNation Theme via theme panel
4) Uploaded and installed Enterprise Theme via theme panel
Now, my problems:
1) For both of the themes, there is no Ã,© displayed for tinyportal
2) There is no forum button in the main menu on each theme
3) There is no left or right panels displayed in anything
I went through every single step many times, to the same result.

You need to download and install the themes that are made for TP. You downloaded the SMF theme. Go back to the downloads page for the themes and you'll notice that there is also a download for the TP theme on the same page as the SMF theme. Make sure tp is in the filename.
