Hi there, I'm new to this and extremely confused about the whole thing, here is how I'd like my forum to be set up:
Front page, articles displayed in the center, left side blocks on the left and right on the right, forum posts center and under articles. Problem is that I think I have tried everything and can't get anything but front page blocks to show under or above the articles (and only when I unset "featured article"!)
My first left side block is in html, it's definatly activated
The options "Show for this action, show when inside this board" etc. are all set to none..
Frontpage settings, I set "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date"
"Frontblocks are added first" or last, whichever, they both show.
Left, right and center blocks are CHECKED.
Article layout set to "A"
In the Article options, article unfeatured.
- Show centerblocks
- Show rightblocks
- Show leftblocks
All checked.
So why aren't the other blocks showing? To be honest, I do not even want frontpage blocks at all, I just want left and right, and the articles/forum posts in the center.
I also want the left/right blocks to show on the actual forum.. but this is all very confusing and I have no idea where I am going wrong, tried searching but people seem to have so many different problems relating to this, couldn't find a fix for my own problem, please help me! Thanks
Sounds like you have several things going on, so lets just take one and sort it out first.
To display your blocks in the forum and not on the front/home page do this:
Admin>Block Manager>Select 'edit' for one of your blocks>... at the bottom of the page you will see a menu for " Show for this action" and in the upper left drop down window select 'Forum'.
That should give you that block displayed only in the forum pages, you can also select other areas as well if you wish to do so.
Do this for each block that you want to be displayed.
EDIT:
In rereading your post it seems that I'm taking you in the wrong direction. If you have already set your blocks as indicated above they will not be displayed on your front page, in which case you will need to set the action to -none-.
Give me a few minutes to better research you question. ;)
Hi thanks for replying, though I just tried that (every other option below that is set to none) and still nothing showing up on the forums.

Hi Articuno... please see my edit above. :)
Articuno, at the link below is one of my forums, see if that setup is close to what you have in mind. The 'chat' window you see at top center is contained inside an article, so you have one article and then "8 Most Recently Posted To Topics" in the center with various blocks on both sides.

That front page is pretty much exactly how I'd like it to be, yes, with different blocks of course. Though I noticed your forums don't have blocks, but it might not matter as long as there is a home page to return to so people can easily get back.
OK, refer to my first post to set your blocks to display as you want them, at one point you indicated that you didn't want the blocks on your front page, if so do as stated in the post, if not do as in the edit.
For your front page articles:
Admin>Tiny Portal>Settings>Front Page>What to show on front page: select 'only articles'
Next go to Tiny Portal>Article Manager and pick the article that you want to see displayed on the front page, open the article and below the text window look for "Show on front page:" check 'yes'.
Don't worry about the 'set as featured' option for now, hopefully we won't need to use that one to get you where you want to be.
What I meant was that I do not want "Frontpage blocks" on the front page, only left/right blocks with articles displayed in the middle as they normally would be.
The article shows no problem, it's only my left/right/center blocks that do not show no matter what I do.

If you want the blocks to show inside the forum as well as on the front page here is an additional step to take:
leave the previous settings as is for showing them on the front pageAdmin>Settings>... and in the 'TinyPortal - General Settings' look for 'Use left panel:' (& right panel) settings and adjust as desired.

For the "I do not want "Frontpage blocks" part do the "select 'only articles'" as above.
For the blocks not showing, maybe we are missing something here, are you doing this in a custom theme? We should doing this setup while in the SMF Core Default theme. The second question would be if you are using a custom theme, is it for SMF or is it for TP because in an SMF theme your blocks will not show up.
A link to your site would be good. ;)
Oh dear, yes it's a custom SMF theme :( I'll just see what I can do with another theme before I give up and post a link :D
Do this, set your forum to the SMF Core Default theme.
Get all the articles/blocks issues resolved and then go back to installing your custom themes. Uninstall all SMF versions first.
Make sure to get the correct theme by looking for TP at the end of the theme name on the download page, most download pages will have two links with the 'Download' button being the SMF version and down below that the TP version.
Thanks very much for your help, everything works fine on the Core Default theme, now to find a new and suitable one!
Glad it worked. ;)
