To start, I am not asking when version 1 of TinyPortal will be release, so please do not lock this topic! With that said, anyone who does reply, please do not ask that question... or Lesmond will transform your face into a primate. :2funny:
I am under the assumption that the link manager, teampage manager, and gallery manager will all be incorporated in the initial, stable release of the new version of TinyPortal (TinyPortal 1.0 final) but just to attain certainty I am asking right here and right now. These new features were confirmed in the roadmap article of TinyPortal back in April 2006 by Bloc slated for the 1.0 branch release, but as projects like TinyPortal progress over time developments can change quite immensely. Bloc or IchBin, may you confirm these added features for TP v1.0? Also if possible can you converge as to the available functions and limitations entailed to each of the three features?
I am also interested how the TP templates of the new version (TinyPortal 1.0 final) will differ from the current TinyPortal 0.9 releases? Will existing SMF 1.1.x and TP 0.9.8 themes be compatible with TP 1 or will be require minor-moderate revisions or will be be entirely incompatible unless heavy alterations are made to the template files? And are current block and article layouts/visual options going to be perversed when upgrading to the TP 1 version?
Advances in SMF's core development too raises questions about soon to be previous (or current, from the time of this post) branches support life. SMF 2 is a long way down the road, but assuming the SMF 2.0 final release comes sooner than many of us predict how might this affect TinyPortal's continuing support of TP version 1.x under the SMF 1.1 branch before becoming depreciated? Is the consensus to end backwards compatibility of future TinyPortal versions when SMF 2 reaches a certain scale of adoption or after a defined timetable? Yes, these inquiries now play no significant, but in time they will be on every SMF and TP user's mind. Personally I would like to see a much longer support life for TP 1.0 under the SMF 1.1 branch after SMF 2.0 final than with TP 0.9 under the SMF 1.0 branch after SMF 1.1.
Thanks in advance!
By the way, when will version 1.0 be done? Just kidding.
At this time we cant say as we dont really know where this is going at the moment.
And also, we dont give answers to uppcomming releases before we actually have the next version available as Alpha stage, and we are not even there yet.
Bloc is working on diffrent things, if they will be implemented or not is for the future to say, but some of the features he had in the roadmap will be implemented, but the discussions with Bloc and the team regarding how to implement what, we cant give any answers to right now.
Thanks, G6, quite right, many things are currently "under development" but I will try to answer some on the things asked here..
TP 1.0 will include these modules yes. They have been planned for a long while and will be part of the core - as the DL manager already is. In addition it will also be possible to use other plugin-modules - therefore the code for all modules, or the interface rather, will need to be modified a bit.
I am aiming to make TP1.0 compatible with prior versions, things will be added or slightly changed - but not "reversed". So your blocks/articles/visual options etc. will still work as before, but with a few extras. I will come to these in abit.
Supporting SMF 1.1(and rudimentary support of SMF1.0) is the primary concern. Although I have access and indeed also working on SMF 2.0 I feel its wrong to change TP before that is even properly fleshed out. So much changes in that, that it will impact TP quite a bit. So for now, SMF2.0 is way off from TP's list.
Back to features..there are already a number of changes done, most you can't see that much here on this site, but they mostly concern the placing of blocks. The module system of course, and the basic framework for the built-in modules. Articles and categories will also be expanded etc.
There is one thing that i am working on that might change things though..and thats the need to modify the themes. It *may* be possible to use a regular SMF theme for TP in the future and have all your panels show still - by the use of the SMF theme layer system. If this is working, then it will also be compatible with existing TP themes of course, as the one doesn't rule out the other.
For features on the modules, I rather not disclose anything just yet, it will prob. change anyway and it will surely be a gradual process as the needs and flaws emerge. ;)

Fantastic. Some of these block and articles improvements you mentioned in the roadmap found here- http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?page=14

If you successfully manage to implement this, integration of TinyPortal into SMF will strengthen both adoption of this software and simplicity of use to style to a forum owner's liking. Truly thinking ahead on this one! ;)
Thanks for attending to my questions, Bloc. Your work goes far beyond respected in my estimation. I am now more so excited about the future of TinyPortal than ever. :)

Sorry Ich but he was in Motley Crew............. ::)
ahhh..... crap. Thanks for the clarification. I don't know why I associated him with Kiss..... /me smacks himself in the forehead
Someone mentioned age..? ;D
Wasn't me honest ;)
Nikki Sixx is the bassist of the 80's hair metal band Motley Crue. They were touring with Aerosmith less than a year ago and still are an active band. However many of them are doing their own stints. Anyone remember Tommy Lee goes to college on NBC?
