Hi i want to display my forum threads and the attachment picture on the TP front page , to display it like a news story, that people can comment on back in the corresponding SMF Thread.
Is this Achievable with TP or is there something like this already out there ?
My idea is a Community based News site, with people with a certain amount of post being allowed to tick a box to post the News Story to the frontpage when they create a new thread in the Forum.
All help is greatly appreciated, and well done on doing such a great job with a great mod
Cheers
Glenn

Hi Zetan , is there a way of displaying the picture as well the same as it does with your site ?
The link to the thread you showed me only displays the Text.
Nice site by the way
My site is a work in progress

Thanks for your help , this is great commiunity
You create a new Topic as you normally would, you can include images wrapped in the image BBC tags.
I put the image first.. then the news underneath.. It then displays whats in the Topic on the home page..
We used to create News topics using html.. a long lengthy process and as a result, the home page was not often updated as it is now.. this way, we have guidelines that our members follow and everybody can contribute to news items.. it's easier for me and keeps the home page more up to date with little effort.
thats just the way we do it.
I see you are having some problems.
paste the image URL.. highlight the URL and hit the Image tag button in the post options.. this button:
>>>(https://www.tinyportal.net/Themes/newdef/images/bbc/img.gif)<<<
That will then look like this in code:
[img]http://www.tinyportal.net/Themes/newdef/images/bbc/img.gif[/img]
If you already know this.. apologies.
Ok so you arn't adding them via upload an attachment then displaying them inline ?
The images being stored when i upload via attachments are being stored in binary :(
Is there a way to get them to store in their own file format ?
So how do you upload your images ?
edit:
Yes , i know how to display them via bbcode, but i am uploading them via attachment in the attachment folder, and wanted to display the attachment picture.
Am i going to have to upload via the TP Download manager ?
Thanks again for your help
You can host them on your server, or at a hosting site such as Photobucket.
but they must have the complete path, with: http://Yoursite.com/images/example.jpg wrapped in BBC image tags.
[Edit] Not as an attachment.. no
[edit2] Example: http://labradio.co.uk/index.php/topic,872.0.html
Ok, i host them on my server , but do i have to use the Download manager to upload them instead of the SMF attachment uploader ?
edit: Ok forget the top question ;)
I just have to use TP Download Manager ? ;)
Thanks Again
No.. please see my edits.. if you view my home page then hit the comments button.. not Write Comment, you can see the actual Topic that its pulled from.
Yes i understand how to display image
But how should i upload theimage to my server ?
I am very new to smf , and TP, need and easy way to upload to server with out using ftp
Well, thats the only way.. via FTP if you are hosting on your own server.
We don't host large images on our server.. we use photobucket:
http://labradio.co.uk/index.php?page=53
People upload to that account and copy/paste the URL for BBC/Forum.. Like I said, thats the way we have ours set up. I created a new PB account just for site images. It saves server space for us.
Ok , i have it working . Sorry to be such a Noob :(
i have so much to learn
Thanks very much for your help
No problem.. I guess I just do things slightly different to many people.. I don't have SMF gallery and only members have access details to the PB account.
I pay enough bills on our stream host every month, so I try so keep our server as free as we can to keep the costs low.
Theres probably other ways to do what you want :P
Thats just my way
And... You're only a n00b until you've learnt it. ;)
