Title: Installing problems...
Post by: Amycha on June 03, 2007, 11:15:15 AM
Hi,

I'm new to tiny portal but I know how to use SMF realy good...
What am I doing wrong?
When I click on apply mod I should normally go to a page with tests and a button to install but I've never seen that page when I tried to apply TP...
I always seem to get the same page which says that I can't connect to the server, but the forum works perfectly...

I have this problem with arcade, TP, some other mods for 1.1.2 but not with all of them. How come I have this problem???

Thanks for helping me already...

Seems like your package manager action doesent work as it should.
You have to ask about this over at Simplemachines.org as the package manager and the functions of it is their support.

oke I will... or maybe it's because my account isn't the head admin? I'll ask my dad to try and otherwise I'll ask on the smf forum...

Thanks anyway =^+^=

Actually I am having the same problem.

I was setting up a new board when I ran across TP and decided to try it. I had issues with Unable to Connect, so I actually created an entirely new board/database for testing. With a completely fresh install of SMF I had the same problem again. I successfully installed every other package I tried, but not TP. I even removed the other packages, then tried TP again and failed. I then set the root of the site to 777 full permission (I know bad idea but was worth a shot) for everyone and tried again, failure. Every other package I have tried works fine and I would rather not go through a manual install.

Currently the only package installed is the Email User System from SMF, other than that its a fresh site.

Can you please post the link to the package you are trying to install.

The 8th one down, TinyPortal 0.9.8

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat5

The .zip downloaded fine, and uploads to the SMF fine. If I hit List Files it shows 511 files, but when I hit Apply Mod I get the error.

You can view the site here:

http://st11.startlogic.com/~twmodsqu/index.php

I set up an admin account and will PM the details if you wish.

Please do send the account in PM, I think i have used that package like 40 times since last week and it doesent generate errors for me, so it must be something else that make it not work on your site

I just extracted the install files to a local folder and a quick check by selecting properties shows 512 files but the List Files in SMF shows 511? Possibly something isnt being read correctly with this particular file.

Dont know what you did to get an error, but i went in, went to the package manager and clicked the install button and it installed with out a hitch what so ever.  ;)
What browser do you use ?

IE7, never thought of trying another browser. Have any idea what the file discrepancy (511 vs 512)is about?

The only think i can think of there is that windows might add some check file or similar when you extract the file locally.
Just checked the package and every thing seems to be as it should  :)

I didnt extract using the windows extractor, I used WinRAR and there are no crc check files.

Later when I have time I will go through the list one at a time and see if I can spot a difference.

As for which browser I used, are there known issues with IE7? I didnt see anything reported when looking through the documentation.

On another note I installed TP on the original forum that I was having problems with, I didnt change the way I did anything but it went this time. Strange.

I have another forum where it installed perfectly, even more... I managed to instal the latest version on my 1.1.2 version while I got upload problems on the first forum when I even tried to instal the oldest TP version!!!
And I still use IE6, it's just because of the language package and some broken tables in the database because of the updates and other errors before :P

So that must be the problem... update from 1.1RC1 to 1.1.2 with language pack and previous but diffrent errors can cause damaged table structure which causes the trouble with TP...

Might be a silly question, but you both using the default theme when installing TP?

Um I didnt know you could install it with a different theme, I thought you had to add the theme after, so yes I was installing the default theme.

You are not supposed to install any mods in any theme other than the default.   After you add the tp then you can add themes that have been made or converted for tp.

Thats the way I understood it too which is why the question about installing with the default theme threw me off.

I did it in default too but my first forum has some critical tables in the database and I'm NOT going to fix them because then my entire forum might be gone... and TP works perfect on my seccond forum :P
