Cant really give you an answer to this.
Can you try and give us some more info about what you do when you try to make a category.

Also a link to the site so we can see what you have there :)

Also, please don't bump a post within a 24 hour time period. Its considered to be rude.

i can't post a link to my site because it's an intranet

the problem:
i wait a lot of time but nothing appens
for example: if i try to post a new article i wait.....wait....wait.....and so, when the browser stop to elaboration, does not change nothing, the page remains as it was, like if had not pressed the push-button in order to send the article

the same thing succeeds when I try to insert a new element in the menù in "manage bloks" or when I try to create one new article category

it could be the cause in the php.ini?

my tinyportal is in:

Windows 2003 Server R2 SP1
Apache 2.2.4
PHP 5.2.2
MySQL 5
SMF 1.1.2
Tiny 0.98

That sounds more like an server issue then a SMF/TP issue.
The script times out cause it gets blocked when it try to update the DB with the new information.

Can you look in the error log and see what errors you get there, also if you get some sort od error screen, can you post what that screen say

Well i cant help you if i cant see or access the site some how  :-\

All i know now is that "nothing happends" "browser time out" and the only thing i can say with these things is that it have to be some sort of server configuration issue.

i have another forum (www.occhidellasperanza.it/forum)
this forum works fine
i copy all files and directory from www.occhidellasperanza.it/forum in my intranet
nothing is changed

i think maybe a server problem as you tell me

can you post me a valid php.ini ?
to make a diff with mine

thankyou

This is not the best suggestion ever!
But try optimising the tables.

Admin > Maintenance > Optimize all tables to improve performance.

I try to keep mine optimised at least once a week.. it does make things run faster. It may not help you're problem at all.

Server configuration files is not something we support here on TinyPortal.
Perhaps you can learn more about how to configure the server if you browse to Apache or phpmyadmin sites and ask them to help you.

Can you post the code for the article you are trying to add ?
You proably have the <?php ?> codes in there.
If they are remove them and try again

Please download and run the manual_tp_install.php file in your browser. This will hopefully update and fix your database issue. Post back if you still have problems.

I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM !!!!!!

I had set as a value NULL the following fields in the database with phpmyadmin:

Tp_articles table -> field shortname
To be able to new articles

Tp_variables -> field subtype
Tp_variables -> field value7
Tp_variables -> field value8
To be able to new categories

But I must add new articles to force choosing a category from among those available, I practically not allowed to enter a new one without category

so, i have found this solution too:

in TPortalAdmin.php

goto line 451, find:
$artc=$_POST['tp_article_category'];
replace with
$artc=$_POST['tp_article_category'];
if(empty($artc))
$artc = 0;

Perhaps someone is interested in this and perhaps you can prevent this mistake with a change
bye Nicola
