Title: front block settings
Post by: kopijun on May 13, 2007, 06:14:02 PM
Hello everybody, I've been using TP for almost 1 month, but sorry I still don't get the whole function of it's settings...

I wonder about the frontblock setting, is it possible to show the frontblock only in the 1st page of my sites ? It means the frontblock can't be seen when user go to another page but which is still in the TP area, like article category...Any answer would be appreciated....Thanks...

Front page blocks only show on the front page.. Center, Left and Right blocks can be set to display in locations in you're forums that you choose.
Articles can also be set to display, Left, Right and center blocks.
The best way to find out how they work is by experimenting.
Future features will include the option to NOT show a block in boards you choose. Currently you can set which blocks can be displayed in the Boards you choose.

Actually this is my problem :

My site is in http://komunitastambang.org (http://komunitastambang.org)...I have 3 frontblocks (front page blocks)in the homepage, which are 1. for pictures, 2. the headline news, 3. for more news....and the rest is article blocks...(hope you go to that link)

When I go to http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12 (http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12), the front page blocks keep displaying...

So I want those front page blocks don't be displayed when I go to http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12 (http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12)...Is it possible ?

What is cat=12? Is that Page? like an Article page number?
You can PM me a temporary Admin login and I can take a look. I'm streaming at the mo, but I'll have a look now.
Also the bullets in one of the blocks are sitting out side the block. You can fix that by using:

<ul><li>text</li></ul>

I'm using FireFox 2.
Okay... I'm not going to mess with all of your Articles.
But each article has option to turn on/off left and right blocks. If they all have blocks turned off and one has blocks switched on. That one article will display the blocks.

Admin > TinyPortal/Article Manager > Articles.
each Article has an editor as you know, and each block *Article has Visual Options. Edit the ones that feature on the Home Page so that the left and right blocks are switched off.

If that does not work, I'll look into it further.

Well I think I know about the article setting...What I get is if we go to the article page, the adress is pointed to  a link with page="number".....

And my problem is  adress which is showed with cat="any number".

So I want to make the front page blocks in the "cat" adress disappear.

So, you want to turn off blocks for a whole category of Articles?
I'm just trying to get it clear what we are trying to do.. I see when I view http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12 that the blocks left and right are switched on.

Maybe I want it that too but later. Now what we're trying to do is turn off the front page blocks ( in the center), not the left or the right side blocks, in those adress...

Ok I want to make more clearly. You've seen my site, so you know there are 3 front page blocks ( the pics, headline news and more recent news blocks). So I want to make those blocks turned off in this adress : http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12 (http://komunitastambang.org/index.php?cat=12)

I'm not sure it's possible at this time.. I've spent the best part of an hour looking at it, and I don't understand the language that you're site is in.
You can't currently set blocks NOT to display in certain areas and display in multiple other areas, but it is being worked on.
Have a look at this thread, I think this is what you want to do:

Correct Zetan, this is not possible at this moment. You'll have to wait for a future release of TP to do these types of things.

Ok I see...So this is not possible at this time...How sad I am :(. But many thanks for the help man. By the way that is Indonesian language.

And the bullets, yes I've looked with firefox, the bullets sit outside the blocks. But I 've changed the code with the code you gave, and it works :) Second thanks...:)

No worries. You're not sad for asking if it's possible. But wait for updates for TinyPortal and it may have been implemented.
