Title: Test Failed errors - please help...
Post by: sportsguy on May 09, 2007, 09:18:21 PM
I see this when attempting the TP install:

10.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/default/index.template.php     Test failed
11.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/babylon/index.template.php    Test failed

Now, I checked both files, they are both set to 777, so, to my understanding, should be accessible and editable.

Also, for some reason, I seem to be unable to force my SMF settings to show only the default theme - I personally, as the Admin, and seeing the Babylon theme - other members have different settings according to my platform stats.

This default theme issue has existed since I upgraded to SMF 1.1.2 a couple weeks ago - until today, it hasn't been an issue.

For the record:

SMF V1.1.2
TinyPortal0.9.8 for SMF1.1RC3-SMF1.1.2
I tried to upload the package (was successful with that)
Hit these errors when I tried to apply the mod.

You have to install in default mode. This appears to be your problem.
Do you have access to your Database?

EDIT: Do you have any other mods installed?

Mod's are probably interfering with the code, Apply the mod and then add the extra code to the index.template.php of whichever theme you will most likely use more.

...when you know what to ask it to look for. ;)

...and since I did find this same problem listed elsewhere, I did spend about 30 minutes reading other threads before posting my own.

Your own advice, G6, said, "I have the page code posted in another recent thread..." (or something similar).  Thinking my solution might be at hand, I went back through your recent posts - didn't find what I thought I might be looking for. :(

I mod in several places - I know the value of "search". ;)  Please understand, I'm not trying to be snappy here - but the fact was, I did search, and didn't find my fix, so while your advice is useful, and one thread in your results lists shed a bit of light on things for me, I remain stumped. :(

Now, onto the rest of the info:

QuoteYou have to install in default mode. This appears to be your problem.

Sounds good - whazzit mean?  Default theme enabled?

QuoteDo you have access to your Database?

I'll say yes, but have never been there.  I can run a backup no trouble and it gets e-mailed to me, but I haven't gone in to play "inside" the DB...

QuoteEDIT: Do you have any other mods installed?

Yep - gallery mod and ad mod - should I turn them off before installing this one?

...why, oh why, can't things just work right the first time...? *sigh*

The trouble is, many users have chosen to use other themes - I'll need to force everyone to one theme to ensure they see the TP modded version of the site...

If it is other mods, it is probably wisest to merely uninstall the other mods, Install TP, then reinstall the other mods would it not?

I also doubt that it is other mods considering the only things failing are in the theme files.
I suspect that it is being caused by him not being in the Default theme.

Try going to your index for your site
Ex. www.mysite.com/smf/index.php

And add "?theme=1"
to the end of the URL.
ex. www.mysite.com/index.php?theme=1

Does this force you into the default theme?

I'll say "yes" it does:

is this the default theme for smf (http://www.hfx4sale.com/index.php?theme=1) (not sure of the etiquette here, so if that link to my own site is problematic, let me know and I'll remove is asap.)

I ask because I can honestly say I've never seen that before in my life...*chuckle*

No. That would be Babylon.

It appears as though you do not have the Default theme installed somehow.
This would be my guess.
Is anyone else on your forum able to view in the default theme, and have you done ANY custom work with ANY of you themes?

Download the SMF full install package, extract the files, take out the install.php from the package and upload the rest of the files through FTP.
That will bring all fresh files to your forum.
(also the loss of any mod installed)
Set the forum to use the Default CORE theme (thats the SMF default)

Uninstall all the other themes you have, just leave Babylon, Core and Classic left.
Then remove all the themes through FTP and leave the same listed Default, Babylon and Classic.

When you have done this, install TP through the package manager, and then the other mods you had and still want to have. (you will NOT loose any data in the DB as this will leave the DB alone )

Now when you have all this set up you install the TP versions of the themes you want to have on your site.

Thanks gang. :)  Seems doable - a bit of time, but nothing major.  Over writing files is a snap!  Almost too easy some would say... ;)

OK, so I downloaded the full install of 1.1.2 again - there is no theme in it labeled CORE.

There is only:

Babylon
Classic
Default

I'm game to over write things if needed, but unless one of the folders is missing files, I'm not sure there's a point... :(

The default theme is the forum core default.  I believe that the one you are looking for.  ;)

OK - that's just confusing to me, because...

Its labeled the default theme.

I think I get it now - it's labeled as Default, but thought of as "the core theme"... ;)

OK, so yeah, that's in there - the one I have actually has more file sin it that the one I just downloaded, and my ftp keeps failing when trying to upload them again to set them up as a backup.

I have to be honest - I'm questioning if TP is even worth all this effort.  I'd really expect something like this to be a much smoother run-through...

But, I'll keep giving it a try to see if I can make it work - mostly because the gent who stepped up to do some custom coding is using TP as a base to accomplish what I want.

So, is the default theme, the default theme, or is Babylon the default theme?

default theme is the default. Babylon was the default theme in the SMF 1.0.x versions.

After you get it installed you will have no questions about was it worth.   Its 100% worth it IMHO

...and so the tick is correct!

I over wrote more files than needed, but it's working. :D

Now I have the oddness of this"

IE shows the default theme to me
FF shows the babylon theme to me

Setting in Admin is for the default.

Cleared my cache several times, so I have no clue why my FF is showing one theme and IE another...LOL

Might it be a personal setting for me through TP that I simply haven't stumbled over to reset for myself? (I know with TP you can select different skins via boxes - I'm not seeing any live, but still...)

I must go read some docs now. :)

Thanks gang. :D  Very much appreciated!

So glad you got it working.    :)   The docs section is a very good place to start.  Once you get the feel for things you might want to check out the block code snippets board.   Have fun!!!!
