Hello,
Perhaps I am dumb (this is more than likely the case), but I am struggling to understand how to properly use articles as a page. I looked over the FAQ and it does not help all that much.
Basically what I want to do is make a stand alone page (to replace an html page) that uses TP around the boarders that is basically a page or combination of pages (articles) and allow users to submit or edit.
I've created a category.
I've created an article in the above category.
All I can get the article to do is display on the bottom of the main page by using preview.
Can anyone get me started in the right direction?
Thanks!
What code are you putting in the article ? And what kind of article have you created ?
Please post the code here with codetags so we can see what you are trying to do.

Very very simple stuff ... just plain ol' HTML linking to other sides and other random info. Like I said, I'm really just looking to create an HTML page inside of TP. The articles (if used properly, but I suck) seem to be the ideal route due to being able to add articles on the fly and allowing users to add them.
Is there some good documentation or examples out there I could follow? Anything would help ...
If you follow the south-gwent-ramblers link in my sig you will go to a website that has a forum, if you get what I mean. All the 'pages' linked to in the menu are articles.
If you want to know how I have done any bits post back and ask.
nokonium, yes this is what I'm looking for. The ability to create pages inside the forums that look act and feel like a webpage.
I'd also like the ability to have multiple articles (that users can create/edit) on a specified page, kind've like the homepage here: http://www.therisenguild.net/
The problem I'm having so far is that any article I create, I can only get it to show up on the bottom of the Home page. I want to be able to have these articles show up on their own pages, or be combined in a page. Having the user be able to contribute/modify articles would be a bonus, but not necessary.
Any help would be huge.
Thanks
What are your front page settings?
There are the following options:
Only forum-posts
Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date
Only articles
Featured article and front page blocks
Front page blocks
Go directly to forum index
Mine is set to Featured article and front page blocks but I do not have any front page blocks, just a 'featured article (an article can be set to featured in the article manager)
The Site Menu is a Menubox, you create that in the Block Manager and select the block content in the Menu Manager. You need to create the articles first so that you can select them in the menu manager.
Each article has its own set of display options, which includes allowing comments.
Just as a quick example of what's happening ... I made a quick little article and whenever I open it, it shows up at the bottom of the page and using all of my homepage stuff.
http://www.importantworkstuff.com/Forum/index.php?page=15 (scroll down). I want self contained pages that don't have any of the Home page info on them. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
My Front Page has Front page Blocks enabled as that is all I use on the front page.
I've just had a look, I think you still have some sorting out to do ;)
What do you mean?
So am I correct in saying that all articles are based on the front page? That they can not be independent of whatever content is in the front page blocks? That's what my root problem is here. I create an article and anytime I look at it, my front page blocks are on the same page ... why? I thought the purpose of an article was to basically be a separate page.
Hmmm, I might be headed in the right direction ...
Normal, frontblocks are shown alone
- This is what I needed

In the article options you can set whether or not you would like blocks to display or not.
BTW, the shoutbox is NOT FOR SUPPORT. Please do not post for support in the shoutbox.
My apologies, was trying to get the attention of a member who helped me last time, I should have sent a PM.
Thanks for the info, hopefully I'm off to design my site a bit better now.

I use a 1024 x 768 screen resolution and the right side is out of sight on the end a scroll bar. The width of the weather block is causing it, with the block shrunk it is OK(ish). It is OK in Firefox and Opera but there is still a problem in IE7
'The Browns' & 'IGN' blocks have content wider than the block and overflow. The problem bit is the 'Prev' & 'Next' line, in IE it shoves everything to the right.
Your shoutbox is screwed bigtime see the screenshot from IE I have attached.
Wow ... I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem with the shoutbox as of yet. Well, that's IE7 for ya.
As for the RSS blocks, I've been posting in the thread to the person who created those RSS feeds for 2 months and have not yet gotten support :(. So If I can find a better RSS display I'll replace it ...
Essentially it is a Dynamic Drive script, have you tried posting in the Dynamic Drive Forum for help?

I'm guessing the shoutbox is set to scroll?
There was a recent Topic about this problem. It was narrowed down to the auto scroll option.
Here is the Topic:

Zetan, looks like that seems to be a common problem in IE7 ... oh well, I'm not worried about it yet :) Screw IE7!
I would be a little more concerened tbh... many people visiting your site will be using IE.
the stats for browsers visiting my site:
Quote
Browser Totals Unique Visitors
Mozilla/Gecko Core 2625 63.70%
MSIE Core 1382 33.54%
Opera 67 1.63%
Other Browsers 40 0.97%
Netscape 7 0.17%
I don't think its something to be brushed under the carpet and it needs to be fixed IMHO.
