Is it good? I want to sign up for a hosting service that allows me to run at least 3 Dbs with at least 1Gb space and still prices at less than U$10, their plans seem to fit the bill.
If you will do a search over at smf in the hosting section you will find the info you are looking for. From what I have read I dont think I would go with them. The one I use is http://www.alphaone-tech.com/ I haven't had any problems or downtime with them. they have great customer service . They say they have unlimited bandwith which I normally stay away from but they said the real amount you can have is ten times you storage space. They also give shell access if you provide a copy of your drivers license.
These are reviews of dreamhost via search at smf

for a cheap hosting this is unbeatable
the space limit is just awesome and the bandwidth is also really cool
plus has many good features
I use it still - they have their down time every now and then but over all i have given them a score of 8/10 after using them for 2 years now
Thanks to both of you, Tick and Gobo (love your avatr, btw)
I have read those reviews and also sought more information there, I rarely go to the SMF boards so the idea did not come to me at all. I have been impressed with the good reviews and quick replies of the monte carlo hosting and am checking their plans and usability to me.
I have also checked alpha one tech, they seem good but I am looking for at least three DBs for 3 different low traffic sites and they do not seem to fit the bill for me in this regard.
Cheers,
Nif.
To be honest with you I have been considering monte carlo also for a site I am going to build for my wife. I too have heard great things about them.. Good choice in my opinion.

They have quite a bad reputation I wont recomend em.
Try computinghost.com i have been with em since a month and till now they were great.
I used 1and1 for almost 4 years and they were good until I started my forum... after the forum was started it began having problems (with the server) and thats when I discovered just how bad customer service can be.
I've switched to MonteCarlo and am well satisfied with them, you can see my review of them and the situation leading up to the switch in this thread (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=168550.0) over on SMF.
It basically comes down to getting what you pay for... and if I starting detailing all of the in depth customer service that I have received from MonteCarlo you might think that I was making it up.
Thanks... Ken
I use dreamhost and they've been rock solid for the past 6-12 months. A year or so ago I almost dumped them, but they have a very transparent operating environment, and when they make a mistake, they take their punches. If you're running anything for a client, I'd think twice about it, but for a personally run forum you can't beat the price. Look for the 777 special and you can get your first year, yes YEAR, for something like $7.77.
They also give you additional space each month like Gmail does. You have unlimited DB's, hosted domains, etc... it's crazy what they offer you. Right now I have 2851 GB of space available.
Oh, and they're a green hosting site, too, for what that's worth.
Most places that I've read any reviews about them they have been labled as "over-sellers". Just my $.02.
Thanks a lot for your reply guys, I am actually looking for a reliable host with a good customer service, mainly because I am not in the US and not having to call to solve something is a great plus on my phone bill. I have checked the other suggestions and a few friends' suggestions as well and decided on Monte Carlo.
I am now waiting for a few other things before signing up with them and getting the site transfered.
Before you make a decison check out www.ewebzone.net I can say without a doubt you will not find better customer service. The only reason I did not post before is because I thought their prices were a little high.,but Monte carlo seems higher for less---ewebzone will allow you to host unlimited sites and unlimited databases--they are exellent...
I will check that one out SuperQ, thanks for your help. :)
My man there is Alex--If you do contact them you may want to talk to him and let him know you will be using Smf/tp. he has me on a server where everything works. If it doesn't he is responsive[usually in minutes believe it or not] to your needs...
www.therockpile.org
And don't forget tiny portal hosting.
Yeah, but TpHosting is not open yet and I will be needing a host soon, can't really wait for it. id di check it out though. ;)
