Title: New Install Not Attempted Yet
Post by: rumboogy on April 18, 2007, 10:03:12 PM
First let me preface this post by I hope I am not as stupid as I sound.

I have a fresh install of SMF 1.1.2 for site that I may or may not even use, however I would like to use it to try out Tiny Portal. I really like the looks of the Tiny Portal websites and if all goes well on this install, I may use it one of my busier sites.

I presently maintain 4 different forums (all installed by me) using SMF, phpBB, and Coppermine.

OK, now the stupid stuff. I think I am totally confused as to the next step for installing TP. I can't even figure out which file to download, there are two:  TinyPortal 0.9.8 Manual install and TinyPortal 0.9.8.  Are one of these an automatic install now (yes, I read where at one time the only install had to be a manual install with lots of copying and pasting).

So what is the difference between these zip files?

At this point (remember, I maintain 4 sites), I would be willing to pay (by paypal) for the install. Again, the install would be in a NEW install of SMF 1.1.2.

Anyone interested?

Thanks,

Wally

It really is quite straight forward.. have you installed mods via the package manager?
Well, Tiny Portal is a mod... You install it like you would any other mod, Some run into difficulties and have to manually install, I've never had to and it's been simple enough.

If you are to use themes, they must be Tiny Portal compatible themes.
Try the 0.9.8 install first via the package manager. Just upload the .zip file. It will take care of itself.

You dont have to pay for what you can manage pretty easy all by your self.

The manual install package is just what it say, manuall install.
The other package is the package that you install throug the package manager with in SMF like any other modification.
So if you download that package and try to install it on a clean SMF, i know you will have the TP installed with in  seconds.

The manual install package is mostly used when you have other mods or file permission issues on the server and install you have up and running.
But start with the full package and install it through the manager. On a clean install it will work fine on 90% of all servers.

Thank you guys...I misunderstood some of the requirements...I do know how to use Package Manager. I will try that...thanks for the advice and a great add-on to SMF.
