Title: Wow I love TP... but...
Post by: maclane on April 18, 2007, 09:48:26 AM
I really love TP. I uses phpp before, but this really shines baby! When I find the time very soon, I also intend to translate the php files to danish... I promise!!

Since IÃ,´m still pretty new at this, I have forllowing problems/questions:

1. When I change my settings in the TP admin, nothing seems to change except the articele stuff. F.ex. I try to make the layout changes to B instead of A, and nothing happens. f.ex. when I activate blocks, nothing happens?

2. How do I rename "my community" on top?

3. The "forum" link doensnÃ,´t appear in portal and opposite?

Thanks in advance

You have to turn them on in order to see the blocks.

I dont think you have the TP installed properly from what you have described.

Download the manual install package, and extract the package. Then replace all the files through FTP and see if you get things to work.

Also check so the code changes to the SMF files are made and if not, make them manually.

You do not understand how TPAdmin works yet....play-around with it, you are now in possession of a powerful tool, learn it well.

Hi Crip, I just made the musiconica work, but why is it that when I klick the "home" button... my language "hjem" theres nothing. It fact, I would very much like the portal to start from the beginning... www.tioglyt.dk . How do I do that easiest?

Thank you so much... ;O)

Are you talking about having your portal/forum show when you click on www.tioglyt.dk ?  If so you would need to move it to your root directory.

Hmmm now I just moved it all to the root, and everything is bad now!! You know.. I donÃ,´t wanna sound to stupid, but was it wrong to just move it?

you have changed all the original paths your forum had.

But by download the repair_settings.php from simplemachines download/tools section you can fix it pretty easy.

Read there on how to use it to get it fixed

I cant understand why its hard to move this: http://www.tioglyt.dk/forum/ to http://www.tioglyt.dk

I mean.. .there must be some guideline. Now I know I need to change som settings within forum configuation, but I guess IÃ,´m too stupid to know what to do... cause I tried to change the SMF map, but no luck

The reason you need to use the Repair Settings .php file is to relink all the hyperlinks on your site. It can't do it by magic, but you can do it using Repair Settings... Basically, you are moving house and your site does not know the new address.

You can't move the directory around willy nilly. Using the Repair Settings will reindex the site.

Okay... thank you Zetan, I uploaded the repair_settings.php to the forum folder, so when I entered the admin it said error... and that I hadnÃ,´t removed the repair_settings.php. I actually donÃ,´t know what to do after uploading the file?

Wow... I just noticed you are the lab radio guy. Gotto tell you.. IÃ,´m really impressed by your site.. that player and all... is really something I would like to implement on mine ;O)

That is a security feature.. when you have run the repair, you MUST delete the file again from your server!

read this:
QuoteThe tool repair_settings.php is a tool to be used to repair some of the more crucial settings for your forum. Simply upload the file to your forum's folder, and navigate your browser to:

http://www.example.com/forum/repair_settings.php
(where www.example.com/forum is your forum's URL.)

It can change maintenance mode, database-driven sessions, your default forum language, your cookie name, the format of URLs ("index.php/topic,1.0.html" vs. "index.php?topic=1.0"), your database connection information, and most importantly your URLs and paths.

Please note that if you installed SMF earlier than version 1.0 RC1, you will probably need to use this tool to restore your forum to working condition after changing servers or domains. For versions 1.0 RC1 and later, these changes should be automatically detected and fixed.

You may also need to use this file if you change one of the above settings, and your forum stops working properly. While this should not happen often, it is possible, which again is why this tool is provided.

/!\ Don't forget to delete this tool from your FTP after you used it.

Title: Re: Wow I love TP... but...
Post by: Zetan on April 19, 2007, 09:48:40 AM
It is called via HTTP/URL
http://www.example.com/forum/repair_settings.php
(where www.example.com/forum is your forum's URL.)

Ahhhh... IÃ,´m there now. So I change all the settings now.. and after that I move the foldes and files in the ftp right?

And another thing ...

forum directory is: /customers/tioglyt.dk/tioglyt.dk/httpd.www/forum

IÃ,´m not really sure on what to do here... if I want the forum to be at www.tioglyt.dk ?
Title: Re: Wow I love TP... but...
Post by: Zetan on April 19, 2007, 10:01:49 AM
You move the forum, then use the repair settings to reindex the site.
I'm at work at the mo and I've been here too long today, this is really SMF support questions.. if you get really stuck ask over at SMF as it their tool.
