I uploaded SMF 1.1.2 and the manual version of Tiny Portal because the package wouldn't load through SMF. I have tried this three times now. Erasing the domain and starting over each time. I really need someone's help! I have no problem loading the SMF site and getting it to run. Soon as I load TP I get a blank page. I followed the directions very carefully. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated.
My site is http://hottopicsforum.com

Did you follow the instructions here http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=14230 Also after you uploaded everything did you point your browser to the manual install.php
Tick, Thanks for the reply.
Yes I followed those directions very carefully. After the TP upload I went to my browser and type in
http://www.hottopicsforum.com/forum/manual_tp_098install.php and hit enter. Then I deleted the manual file and hit refresh. I got a blank white page. I also tried it with http://www.hottopicsforum.com/forum/manual_tp_0983install.php and that didn't work either.
Ed
the path that you entered in your browser. Is that the path to your manual install file. It seems like I remember having a problem with that one time and I was typing in the wrong path to the manual install .php
How do I find out what that path is.
I am using Plesk and the ftp files are located in /httpdocs
If I remember correctly my manual install.php was located in the same folder as my forum so mine read like http://mysitehere/manual_install.php/
excuse me it was http://my site here/manual_tp_install.php/
I found it:
hottopicsforum.com / httpdocs / manual_tp_install.php
So do I need to put httpdocs infront of the this
ED
If it is in that folder I would think so. Try it and see. And if you havent already be sure you have made backups. Unless this is a brand new forum.
I tried this versions and none worked.
http://www.hottopicsforum.com/httpdocs/manual_tp_098install.php
http://www.hottopicsforum.com/httpdocs/manual_tp_0983install.php
http://www.hottopicsforum.com/httpdocs/manual_tp_install.php
The website say use this:
http://www.yoursitehere.com/forum/manual_tp_(the version number here)install.php
I omitted the forum part---What do you think it should be
ed
Not sure if this will help, but.....there should be no reason to be guessing what manual_?????? file name to use.
Use the file manager in Plesk or use your ftp program and determine once and for all what the name of the file is.
Once you have done that, I believe you might want to try to type a path with /httpdocs/.
If your smf forum opens with www.hottopicsforum.com then, are you not already below the httpdocs level?
Add /manual_whatever you determined.php to your path and you may find that is works.
YMMV.
terry
Meant to say without htttpdocs in the path
sorry
All right that worked.

Now what do I do? I went and deleted the manual_tp_install.php and it gave me the same blank page as before
We are at the limit of my ability to provide information. TP has always loaded perfectly for me through the SMF package manager.
If I were in your position, I would try to maximize the help you can receive through this forum. I would delete everything related to SMF and TP off your host - everything -.
Start from the beginning:
Install SMF - Zero mods - default theme.
Insure that you know where the SMF forum installation is located. Do you it via .......something.com or ....something.com/forum.
Use the package manager to install something....say SMF Gallery Lite. How does that go? That will be important info. Even if it went fine, uninstall it and return SMF to non-mod status.
If TP is on your desktop...nuke it and download again.
Attempt install via SMF package manager and if something goes wrong.....report in detail here.
terry
Terry and Tick---Thanks so much for your help. I have already started over three times. If anyone else has any others ideals. Please post them. I got to the last step. I entered
http://hottopicsforum.com/manual_tp_install.php and the Tiny portal welcome message came up. Any suggestions about how to proceed.
If not I will start over again. --Thanks Ed
Just trying to figure out what going on. What happened when you tried using the package manager. also is this a fresh install of smf. and are you using the default theme when you install
Tick,
Yes this is a brand new fresh install of both SMF and TP. When I tried the package manager I got:
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
Also :
8. Execute Modification tinyportal09x-11x.mod Modification parse error
Yes I am using the default theme.
Ed
Try deleting the package that you had previously downloaded and try this one. The files you downloaded before could have gotten corrupted somehow. This is kind of a shot in the dark but it happened to me one time. http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item745
Tick,
Do I need to download this file: TinyPortal 0.9.8 database install
Or is it in the manual 098 install
ED
Neither one click on the link I gave you above it will take you right to the one you need. I suspect that you may have tried to install the wrong one via package manager.
No ----I installed the one you put in the link for the SMF package-deleted the the whole domain and installed the manual one for the manuel install.
Ed
Ok so did you re download it and try again with everything fresh? If you did and that didnt fix it I dont know what to do next. Maybe Ichbin will see this topic and be able to help. Sorry I wasn't more helpful but that is all I know to do. And since you can start over if it messes up will it allow you to go ahead with the install via package manager in spite of the errors
Tick, thanks so much for your help!
Ed
sure thing. I just hope you can get it working. Good luck
{edit} a bit late in the thread..but posted anyway.
Ed, you are now becoming scary :)
Tick was suggesting that you may have been trying to install tp with an incorrect file from the beginning.
Thus he gave you the correct link to the current TP installation files. This is what should install via the SMF package manager.
You seem to be taking a bit of advice and then running off on your own. I no longer have any idea what you have on your host and where you may be having problems.
Again, I suggest you take one step at a time.
Confirm that you get a working SMF.
Confirm that your working SMF has a working package manager by installing a mod of your choice. Upon successful install of mod, uninstall / Remove said mod via the package manager.
Use tick's link and download to your desktop TP.
Upload TP with your FTP program....watch the ftp upload....is it going smooth or lots of retrys of file uploads.
Attempt to install this TP via the SMF package manager.
If you get the same error....do a search on "parse error" you will find a lot of advice.
btw, the problem may be with your host....who are you using...you might want to search using the host name as search phrase...never know what you might find.

No ----I installed the one you put in the link for the SMF package-deleted the the whole domain and installed the manual one for the manuel install.
Ed
I don't quite get what the problem is that you're having with your package manager. Please open the package folder inside your forum folder and delete any TinyPortal file you have in there. Then download this file, try to install it. If it doesn't install, please report back with the error. Please do not try anything else after you have done this as its too hard to keep track of what you have done.
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item745
If you're getting a modification parse error you may have to go the manual install route. You will need to follow the instructions at the following link if so.
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=14230
IchBin,
Thanks so much for your help!
I have done what you suggested 3 times already. First I downloaded the correct file for the package. I got the modification parse error. Then I erased those files and downloaded the manuel package, fixed the files suggested and got to the last step. I put http://hottopicsforum.com/manual_tp_install.php into my browser and it gave me
* Upshrink table exists
* Settings table exists
o Updated version to 098
* Blocks table exists
o Changed pos in blocks table
o Changed pos in blocks table
* Variables table exists
o Changed value5 in variables table
* Articles table exists
o Updated body in articles table
* DL manager table exists
* Shoutbox table exists
TinyPortalÃ,´s table structure is now installed/updated.
Thank you for trying out TinyPortal.
I then deleted the manual_tp_install.php file and refreshed the site and it appeared blank/white page
Thanks Ed
One thing you didnt mention I wanted to see if you did . Did you make the edits to the files that you were supposed to make. Meaning adding the tp code to the smf files
Yes
This topic is solved. The problem was in the editing of the smf files. Moderator please mark this topic as solved.
Thanks so much Tick.
Ed
I am also having similar problems...
I set up the MySQL database.
I have downloaded SMF using FTP into a directory /mysite/forum/ and CHMOD all files 777.
It seems to work ok at default settings.
I have downloaded TP using FTP into same folder also 777 all files.
I have pointed to /forum/manual_tp_install.php and get a report that all is well, no errors.
I have deleted manual_tp_install.php
My SMF site looks exactly the same, don't know where TP is.
Any ideas?
Please do not post in a thread that is currently marked as solved. Please follow the manual installation instructions located in the Docs board.
