Title: Static Page Template
Post by: gerrymo on November 26, 2005, 01:32:07 PM
I another thread, I asked about some help getting a welcome page together. I have thought about this further, and tried dozens of test pages to try to get it working (so far no joy). However, I do feel that having a page such as this could make TP an absolutely awesome portal. If this could be done with the option to turn on and off side bars (via the coding, not in TP Admin [Right=’0’ Left=’1’ to show only the left bar. Or Right=’0’ Left=’0’ to show none type of thing]).

I used the code below on an SMF only site to create a welcome page. Essentially it gives the header, and footer, with an area between to add your own html or php. I do already use the static page mod (and it is very good), but this does not give SEF URLs, and if they are turned on in SMF admin, the static pages don’t work properly.

Having a blank page available to download and add you own content, with your own page name would allow a site to be fully search engine friendly. OK, so there may so problems with themes, but I’m sure that could be worked out.

<?php
ob_start
();
$ssi_theme = 4;
$ssi_layers = array('main');
require_once(
'smf/SSI.php');
?>

Text, html or php here

<?php
ssi_shutdown
();

?>

There is a "Static Page mod" that works very well if this is the same thing as your trying to achieve? The mod I use is here (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=130).

Also with the mod  you can add 8 to 10 "Static" pages, forgot to mention that..

Well Crip, you can actually do as many as you want to. I modded the mod to allow 50. That does not get away from the fact they are Search Engine Unfreindly. Having a static page template, you could, in theory, have unlimited pages that are SEF.

It would also take away the need to mess around with iFrames for galleries, chatrooms, etc.

No its not my mod. But the author did say that it could be done if someone needed more than 10 pages. I only use it, I dont distribute it. Its easy enough to do.

I was not suggesting a Satatic Page template just for me, it would be handy for quite a lot of TP users.
