To start things off, I had a Post-Nuke PHPBB2 Board running, I converted that to regular Post-Nuke, then finally to SMF. All the posts/users are there and they seem to be working fine.
Now, when I install TP v.0.9.83 all the users and posts are still there, but the front page doesn't show any articles/forum posts.
When I change TP>Settings>Front Page to show the forum as the index, the forum shows up like it should. But, when I set it to show articles and last 5 posts, it just shows blank space for the center. However, the featured article does seem to show up.

I tried a fresh install. Installed SMF then TP. Front page articles/posts worked. Used PHPmyAdmin to put my backup database with all the members/posts into the fresh install and the front page disappeared again.
Have you edit every article on where you want it to show up ?

I have also this kind of problem with the frontpage article after been importing a phpBB2 board into SMF... I get "The article isn't active, hasn't been approved yet, or simply does not exist.", but of course the article is active and is approved... I have also created a new featured article from fresh, and that doesn't turn up either :-\

Yep, sure thing (if you mean Activate within the article editor?) :).
I also have the setting "Featured article and front page blocks" in the TP settings as I get this error text. If I use "Only articles" I get just an empty page just like Danny33. If I use "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date" I only get the forum threads sorted on date and no article...
Can you try and upgrade your DB with the files from the SMF big upgrade package (upgrade.php and then the 2 .sql files). Download the package from the SMF forums and extract the file on your local machine, then upload tese 3 files ONLY.
Point the browser to the upgrade.php and let it go to work.
When you have done that, Do the same with TP except that you download the database install only file from the downloads here on TP and upload it to your forum root and point the browser to it.
It might be that some tables didnt get updated or installed when you converted the forum.

The SMF upgrade (http://www.simplemachines.org/download/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_1-1-2_upgrade.zip) went well, and so did the TP database install (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item743)... But, sorry, it doesn't seem to help :'(. The error persist, and behaves like I described before...

Just wondering if anyone is looking into this? Else I guess I have to make a fresh re-install of smf/tp and remember just not to import any phpBB2 crap boards ;)!
I have been searching both here and on TP for a similar issue, but all the answers given here to you were what worked for them.
They got the articles showing up after they
1. replaced them in new categories
2. saved them with in the new categories
3. Activated the articles.
One did have to go the long way.
1. Download the BIG upgrade package, replaced all the files from it.
2. Reinstalled TP again.

I have tried the first solution once, but will have yet another go for it. After that, I'll try the second one.

You know what, while spending yesterday trying to hunt this error down I, of course, tried a lot of settings combinations - especially for the frontpage settings.
Now I've found that if the setting "Only articles" is chosen, the frontpage article will show up but not if I choose "Featured article and front page blocks"... Which of course may sound a little weird, maybe :uglystupid2:, but that is how things are...
I may also add that I prefer to use the Swedish translation, and there the 2nd alternative is named "Enkel sida" - which is what I'd like on the frontpage, i.e. just an article... Maybe the translation is rather "thin", though, and should a little better reflect the English version...? Just a point, written in the margin... ;)
So, the my conclusion is: It works now, but maybe not as expected...
