Alright I am thinking of creating a Linux/Unix forum so people can discuss problems whatever whatever. I was wondering if anyone thinks it's a good idea or if anyone would consider joining it. Just a thought. Thanks.
I don't think too many people around here use Linux/Unix. I think it's a great idea, but getting people to join and be active is anothe story.
Seems to be the problem with all my forums :( FreeBSD 2 lyfe lol
Oh well, Now that I think about it your probably right. I doubt there are enough people and it is hard to get members. Oh well thanks IchBin.
It might be an interesting poll. I run SMF/TP under apache in linux. If there aren't many people here using linux, what ARE they using?
I would wager say that most people are hosted and aren't running their own servers. If they're aren't using linux, what do you think they're using?.... windoz!
Unfortunately, I run my current server off windows. I need a back up comp so I can get on loonix and unix when I need. Instead of having my site go down for a few hours while i play around on freebsd. The server is on windoze so I can game because I am a gamer at heart lol. I would really love a nice linux/unix forum to hang out on.
There are plenty of them the MIke.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/ <--- the biggest one I've seen.
Yea, But i want a more personal one size isn't always better. I would rather have a few smart then a lot of dumb.
There are tons of *nix forums out there with decades of history (especially *BSD - which isn't LInux).
You'd have to really find a niche forum to be of significant value.
I bet IchBin is correct that most are hosted - and most hosts for those accounts are running some sort of Linux (CentOS, RedHat) ... but most end-users don't really notice the OS (or are even able to get directly to it) anymore as cPanels/Fantastico GUIs are the customers UI.
PS -
[root@shuttle tinyp]# uname -a

Mike, I totally agree. Having a few smart people really helps significanlty. I have 2 sites that I visit every once in a while of which both have some really talented smart people. Only thing is, the site just doesn't take off without a lot of work.
http://www.diywebserver.com which is probably the one with the most potential that I have ever visited. Just not enough traffic. They have some fantastic tutorials there to get started on your own hosting. However, it is a windows and linux site.
http://www.linuxcitizen.com was actually one I was involved with but have given up because of time restraints. Feel free to check em out. Why not give it a try? I think the tough thing is to get people to come.
iowamf here's mine. I run a CLI linux OS called http://www.tinysofa.org, had to reboot for a kernel upgrade otherwise I would have a pretty good uptime. :)
[ichbin@www ~]$ uname -a

Me too. That's why I haven't totally switched to linux yet. Besides, I have an ATI video card which isn't 3d supported in linux yet. Don't have the money to get a new nVidia card till after xmas... I'm hoping something good happens in linux before Vista comes out and spoils Bill's fun! ;)
